Above, you will find a photo of the Descendants of Darkness Lycan HUD. All species are the same functioning layout so we used the lycan HUD as a demonstration. The image displays the buttons and their respective functions. You can also locate the photo at the Descendants of Darkness land. This article will delve into the features more comprehensively than what the image conveys.

Attack-Feed Button
<gallery>
File:VampireAttackWithBlood1.png|The vampire attack button with blood.
File:WitchAttackWithBlood.png|The witch attack button with blood.
File:LycanAttackWithBlood.png|The lycan attack button with blood.
File:Bite button hunter.png|The hunter attack button with energy.
</gallery>

The three buttons above represent the attack options for each species, and the specific button on your HUD depends on your chosen species. To initiate an attack, you need to click on the corresponding button when you are within one and a half meters of your target. Clicking it in proximity to another player triggers an attack, and you can view the attack information below the HUD, positioned in the default text display.

Upon attacking another player, they will enter an animation if they have animations enabled. Simultaneously, you will also engage in an attacking animation, which varies based on your species. Clicking the attack button near a non-player (human) initiates feeding. Feeding involves replenishing your blood if it's not already full. The human must have blood for you to feed from them, and the feeding data is visible below the HUD in its default text position.

Each human starts with five liters of blood. Feeding from them decreases their blood levels. If you deplete their blood to zero liters, they will be considered dead, and you won't be able to feed from them again. However, if you don't kill them (i.e., taking them to zero liters), they will naturally regenerate blood over time. It should be noted that if you attempt to bring a deceased individual into the game, they will need to purchase a potion for revival before they can be converted into a player.

It should also be noted that the pictures of the buttons above show the blood half full. If you lose blood, the blood level on the attack/feed button will decrease, and if you gain blood, it will increase.
Self-Scan Button
Click the Self-Scan Button to display a detailed private scan of your character in nearby chat. The results are only visible to you.

A Self Scan contains more information than the public scan shown to other players through the Scan Others Button.

The following example uses entirely fictional player, bloodline, clan, and coven information:

The exact fields displayed will depend on your character. Optional information is automatically omitted when it does not apply.

General Information
Username

Your Second Life username. When displayed by the HUD, the name links to your Second Life profile.

Born

The date and time your character originally entered Descendants of Darkness.

Sire

The player responsible for bringing your character into the game. If your character does not have a sire, this field displays None.

If a Re-Sire request is pending, the scan may also display the proposed sire and the number of days remaining.

Generation

Generation records your character's position in their family line.

A root or Arch character is normally Generation 0. Someone sired by a Generation 0 player becomes Generation 1. Their descendants become Generation 2, and the pattern continues through the family tree.

Generation is primarily used for lineage and roleplay. It does not directly determine your combat strength; combat progression is primarily determined by your age group and related statistics.

Species

Your current species. The Main HUD currently supports Vampires, Lycans, Witches, and Hunters.

Status

Your character's current condition, such as Alive, Sleeping, Dead, Dead from Hunger, or Banned.

A dead Self Scan may also display the date and cause of death.

System Role

Players with a special game-wide position may have a System Role displayed near the top of their scan. This field is omitted for players without one.

Age Information
Age

Your character's current age in nights. Characters with an Alive status normally gain one night of age each day.

Some sleeping levels slow or pause age progression. Because of this, a night of character age does not always equal one real-world day for sleeping characters.

Age Group

There are currently 12 age groups. Each species has different names for these levels, but they share the same age thresholds.

Level
Required Age
1
0 nights
2
30 nights
3
60 nights
4
120 nights
5
240 nights
6
420 nights
7
700 nights
8
1,050 nights
9
1,450 nights
10
1,900 nights
11
2,400 nights
12
2,950 nights

Reaching a new age group can increase your maximum resource, combat strength, attack range, and scanning range. It also reduces your Subsistence requirement.

Subsistence

Subsistence is the amount of your species resource normally consumed each night while your character is alive.

In the example above, a Subsistence value of 0.460 means that the character normally loses 0.460 units of Energy each night.

Subsistence decreases as you advance through the age groups:

Level
Nightly Subsistence
1
0.500
2
0.480
3
0.460
4
0.435
5
0.405
6
0.375
7
0.345
8
0.300
9
0.240
10
0.175
11
0.100
12
0.050

Sleeping characters currently do not lose their resource through nightly Subsistence.

If an active character's resource reaches zero through Subsistence, the character may die from hunger.

Blood / Energy

This line shows your current species resource followed by your maximum capacity.

* Vampires and Lycans use Blood.
* Witches and Hunters use Energy.

For example, Energy: 4.640 of 5.160 means the character currently has 4.640 Energy and can hold a maximum of 5.160.

Your maximum capacity increases as you advance through the age groups.

Essence

Essence is a shared resource used by every species. It is separate from Blood and Energy.

Alive players normally receive a passive gain of 0.25 Essence per day. Additional Essence may be obtained through region-presence rewards, special events, kills, or Essence Containers.

Essence may be spent on actions such as:

* Siring or converting a new player
* Reviving players
* Depositing Essence into containers
* Other game abilities and costs

Dark Rating

Dark Rating is a rolling activity score that measures how active you have been during the most recent 28 Second Life Time calendar days.

Accepted activities award Dark Rating points. A maximum of eight points can count toward your rating on any one day. Accumulating 120 points within the rolling period produces a Dark Rating of 100%.

Dark Rating is recalculated daily at approximately 12:30 a.m. Second Life Time. Older activity leaves the calculation after 28 days, so your rating can rise or fall over time.

Dark Rating is no longer the direct score used to rank Dynasties and Clans. Those groups have separate Weekly and Lifetime scoring systems. However, Dark Rating remains important to systems such as Legacy.

Legacy

Legacy is your cumulative bloodline score. It is influenced by the living descendants beneath you in the family tree and their Dark Ratings.

Active descendants with sufficient Dark Rating can contribute toward your weekly Legacy award. Deeper and well-developed family trees may earn larger rewards. Certain consequences, such as being slain or entering a coma, may reduce an award.

Unlike Dark Rating, Legacy is cumulative and does not automatically disappear when older activity leaves a rolling window.

Bloodline and Affiliation Information
Bloodline DNA

Your character's inherited bloodline. This is private information and is not shown in another player's public scan.

Bloodline DNA is different from Bloodline Allegiance.

Bloodline Allegiance

The bloodline or Arch organization to which your Clan is currently loyal.

If your Clan does not serve a bloodline, the scan may identify you as a Renegade. Players without an applicable affiliation may be identified as an Outlaw.

Loyal To

When available, this line identifies the leader of your Clan's bloodline allegiance and displays their bloodline role.

Following

The player your character currently follows through the loyalty system. This line is omitted when you are not following anyone.

Bloodline Role

Your current position within your inherited bloodline.

Clan

The Clan to which your House, Pack, Coven, or Order belongs.

Clan Role

Your current position within the Clan.

House / Pack / Coven / Order

The name of your character's primary affiliation. The label depends on your species:

Species
Affiliation
Pack
Witch
Coven
Hunter
Order

Affiliation Role

Your current role within your House, Pack, Coven, or Order.

Title

An optional personal title assigned to your character. This line is omitted when you do not have a title.

Umbral Bond

The player with whom your character shares an Umbral Bond. The name links to that player's Second Life profile. This line is omitted when no bond exists.

Followers

The first number is the number of your followers who are currently alive. The second number is your total number of followers.

For example, Followers: 2 of 3 means that two of your three total followers are currently alive.

Scan Others Button
The Scan Others Button allows you to examine nearby avatars. It can identify registered players, humans, and Blighted Abominations.

Unlike the Scan Region Button, Scan Others only searches within your current scanning range. The scan covers 360 degrees, so avatars do not need to be standing in front of you.

Click the button to display a list of nearby avatars, then select the person you want to scan. If several avatars are nearby, additional pages may be available in the target-selection menu.

Scan results are displayed in your nearby chat and are only visible to you.

Scanning Range
Your maximum Scan Others range increases as your character ages.

The scanner has a five-second cooldown. If it is used again too quickly, the HUD will tell you how many seconds remain.

Player Scan
When the selected avatar is a registered player, the HUD requests their public scan. A public scan contains less information than the private scan produced by the Scan Self Button.

The following is a fictional example. All player, clan, bloodline, and house names were created for this wiki page:

<pre>
</pre>

The username shown by the HUD is a clickable Second Life profile link.

Depending on the player and their affiliations, a public scan may include:

* Username
* System role
* Generation
* Species
* Current status
* Dark Rating
* Legacy score
* Age group or rank
* Current and maximum Blood or Energy
* Bloodline allegiance
* Bloodline leader
* Bloodline role
* Clan and clan role
* Player title
* Umbral Bond
* House, Pack, Coven, or Order
* Affiliation role

Fields without information are automatically omitted.

A public scan does not reveal private information such as the player's exact age, birth date, sire, subsistence, essence, Bloodline DNA, followers, or the person they are following.

Witches and other Energy-based species display Energy instead of Blood. The affiliation label also changes by species:

Dead Player Scan
A dead player's public scan is shorter than a living player's scan. It may display:

* Username
* Date of death
* Cause of death
* Banned status, when applicable

Private details about the player are not included.

Human Scan
If the selected avatar is not a registered player, the system treats them as a human. A new human normally begins with 5 litres of blood.

A human scan may look like this:

<pre>
╔═★⋅•⋅∙∘☽ Human Scan Result ☾∘∙⋅•⋅★
║ Human: Rowan Silverbrook
║ Status: Novus Sanguis
║ Blood: 5.000 liters
║ Protection: 0.00%
╚═•⋅⋅•⋅⋅•⋅⊰⋅⋅•⋅⋅•∙⋅∘☽★☾∘⋅∙•⋅⋅•⋅⋅⊰⋅•⋅⋅•⋅⋅•⋅⋅•
</pre>

The human's status reflects their remaining blood:

Status
Meaning
Novus Sanguis
New blood with a full 5 litres.
Sanguis Plenus
The human has at least 4 litres of blood.
Sanguis Medius
The human has between 2 and 4 litres of blood.
Sanguis Exiguus
The human has less than 2 litres of blood remaining.
Sanguis Nullus
The human has no blood remaining.
Ignotus
The human's blood status could not be classified.

Sanguis Nullus is the correct term for an avatar with no blood remaining. It does not merely mean that the avatar is not a registered player. A human with this status cannot be fed upon while their blood remains depleted.

Human blood gradually regenerates over time.

The Protection field displays the progress of any protection placed on the human by a Hunter.

Blighted Abomination Scan
The scanner can also identify a Blighted Abomination. Its scan may contain:

* Status
* Current blood level
* Essence reward
* Echo or backstory

Abomination scans do not display:

* Protection progress
* Resurrection progress
* Revive scheduling or cooldown details

Hunter Protection and Witch Resurrection do not apply to Abominations.

If the Blighted Abomination is dead, its scan may instead display death information and the person or force responsible for killing it. Any Abomination-specific return behaviour is separate from Witch Resurrection.

Masquerade Warning
Public scans contain information protected by the Masquerade.

Do not copy, relay, or publicly reveal another player's scan to non-players. Showing this information to someone outside the game is a violation of the Masquerade and may result in a ban.

The Scan Others Button cannot be used when your character's current status prevents HUD actions, such as while dead, sleeping, dead from hunger, or banned.

Power Attack Button
The Power Attack button executes an attack that inflicts four times as much damage and has an extended range. The attack covers 360 degrees around you and spans up to three meters. When you attack someone the power attack % increases. To see your current power attack %, you can click on the power attack button and your % will temporarily show above the power attack button. If you don't attack anyone for a minute, it will reset to 0%. Once your power attack is at 100% you will see a timer above the power attack button showing how much time you have left to be able to use it, and there would also be a yellow circle around it. This lets you know your power attack is at 100% and you can use it to attack another player. If you do not attack someone with the power attack before the timer runs out, your power attack resets to 0%. Also, don't try to find a loop hole with the dialog box for the power attack, the time is already accounted for. you get 60 seconds to do the power attack. This also includes the time of the dialog box. If the count down timer reaches 0, even if you have the menu open, you won't be able to do a power attack.
Scan Region Button
The Scan Region Button searches the entire region for other players wearing an active Descendants of Darkness HUD.

Your own avatar is excluded from the results. Avatars who are not wearing a compatible HUD will not respond to the scan.

The button supports two actions:

* Short click — Performs a manual region scan and displays the results.
* Press and hold — Opens the automatic scan settings.

Manual Region Scan
Short-click the button to begin a manual scan. The results are displayed in your nearby chat and are only visible to you.

A new player's scan with one other HUD user in the region may look like this:

<pre>
Piercing the veil, please wait...

┌─────────────────────────────────
│ 🌑 Dark Sight
├─────────────────────────────────
└─────────────────────────────────
Found 1 player in region.
</pre>

The scan confirms that one player is present, but a new player cannot yet identify their name, species, rank, or distance.

As your character ages, their senses become stronger and additional information is revealed.

Your Age
120 nights or older
Player name, species, rank, and distance.

Rank and distance are unlocked together at 60 nights. A player's name becomes visible when you reach 120 nights.

Complete Scan Example
After reaching 120 nights, the same scan may look like this:

<pre>
Piercing the veil, please wait...

│ ✧ Raven Ashfall (witch • Disciple) 0.59m
└─────────────────────────────────
Found 1 player in region.
</pre>

In this example:

* Raven Ashfall is the player's name.
* witch is the player's species.
* Disciple is the player's current rank.
* 0.59m is their distance from you.

When several players are detected, they are listed in order of distance, with the nearest player shown first.

If no compatible HUD users are detected, the HUD will report:

<pre>
No presence detected in this realm.
</pre>

Manual region scans have a short cooldown. If you try to scan again too quickly, the HUD will tell you how many seconds remain.

Automatic Scan Settings
Press and hold the Scan Region Button for at least half a second to open its settings menu.

Automatic scanning runs quietly in the background approximately every 30 seconds. It does not print the full player list shown by a manual scan. Instead, it activates the HUD's scan effect when another active HUD is detected in the region.

The following settings are available:

Setting
Description
Sound ON / Sound OFF
Enables or disables the automatic proximity-alert sound.
Set Dist
Sets the distance at which the proximity-alert sound will play.
Exit
Closes the automatic scan settings.

The proximity-alert distance must be greater than 0 metres and cannot exceed 200 metres. The alert sound plays when an automatic scan detects at least one compatible HUD within the selected distance.

Your automatic scan, sound, and distance settings are saved by the HUD.

The Scan Region Button cannot be used when your character's current status prevents HUD actions, such as while dead, sleeping, dead from hunger, or banned.

When RLV is available, enabling Lock RLV prevents the HUD from being detached. This helps keep the HUD attached when changing outfits.

When the lock is active, the menu displays Unlock RLV. Select it to allow the HUD to be detached again.

RLV must be enabled in your viewer for this feature to work.

Resize HUD

The Resize HUD menu allows you to change the overall size of the HUD.

The available controls include:

* MIN SIZE — Sets the HUD to its minimum size of 50%.
* RESTORE — Restores the HUD to its default size of 100%.
* MAX SIZE — Sets the HUD to its maximum size of 200%.
* +0.01 / -0.01 — Increases or decreases the size by 1%.
* +0.05 / -0.05 — Increases or decreases the size by 5%.
* +0.10 / -0.10 — Increases or decreases the size by 10%.

The HUD cannot be resized while you are attacking. Stop your current attack before opening this menu.

Backdrop & Display

The backdrop display contains the text shown while you are attacking, being attacked, or feeding. By default, this display appears beneath the Main HUD.

The following options are available:

# Move the backdrop display — Allows you to move the display to another location on your screen. A hand icon will appear at its current position. Click and drag the hand to the desired location, then release the mouse button to save the new position.
# Reset the position — Returns the display to its default position beneath the HUD.
# Hide / Show backdrop display — Hides the display or makes it visible again.
# Set screen scaling — Adjusts the backdrop for your computer's display scaling. Available settings are 100%, 125%, 150%, and 175%.

Change Theme

The Change Theme menu displays the HUD themes available to you. The theme currently in use is marked as selected.

Choose another available theme to apply it. The HUD will restart after the new theme has been loaded.

Animations Enabled / Disabled

This option controls your personal combat animations, including animations played when you attack or react to an attack.

Disabling animations only affects your avatar. It does not disable another player's animations. This can be useful when you want combat to draw less attention to your avatar.

A checked box indicates that animations are enabled. An empty box indicates that they are disabled.

File:LycanAttackWithBlood.png|The lycan attack button with blood.
File:Bite button hunter.png|The hunter attack button with energy.
</gallery>

* Reviving players
* Depositing Essence into containers

Species
Witch
Coven
Hunter

<pre>
</pre>

The username shown by the HUD is a clickable Second Life profile link.

Depending on the player and their affiliations, a public scan may include:

* Username
* System role
* Generation
* Species
* Current status
* Dark Rating
* Legacy score
* Age group or rank
* Current and maximum Blood or Energy
* Bloodline allegiance
* Bloodline leader
* Bloodline role
* Clan and clan role
* Player title
* Umbral Bond
* House, Pack, Coven, or Order
* Affiliation role

* Username
* Date of death
* Cause of death
* Banned status, when applicable

Private details about the player are not included.

Human Scan
If the selected avatar is not a registered player, the system treats them as a human. A new human normally begins with 5 litres of blood.

A human scan may look like this:

<pre>
╔═★⋅•⋅∙∘☽ Human Scan Result ☾∘∙⋅•⋅★
║ Human: Rowan Silverbrook
║ Status: Novus Sanguis
║ Blood: 5.000 liters
║ Protection: 0.00%
╚═•⋅⋅•⋅⋅•⋅⊰⋅⋅•⋅⋅•∙⋅∘☽★☾∘⋅∙•⋅⋅•⋅⋅⊰⋅•⋅⋅•⋅⋅•⋅⋅•
</pre>

* Status
* Current blood level
* Essence reward
* Echo or backstory

If the Blighted Abomination is dead, its scan may instead display death information and the person or force responsible for killing it. Hunter Protection and Witch Resurrection do not apply to Abominations; any Abomination-specific return behaviour is separate from Witch Resurrection.

<pre>
Piercing the veil, please wait...

┌─────────────────────────────────
└─────────────────────────────────
Found 1 player in region.
</pre>

The scan confirms that one player is present, but a new player cannot yet identify their name, species, rank, or distance.

As your character ages, their senses become stronger and additional information is revealed.

Your Age
Information Revealed
120 nights or older
Player name, species, rank, and distance.

Rank and distance are unlocked together at 60 nights. A player's name becomes visible when you reach 120 nights.

Complete Scan Example
After reaching 120 nights, the same scan may look like this:

<pre>
Piercing the veil, please wait...

│ ✧ Raven Ashfall (witch • Disciple) 0.59m
└─────────────────────────────────
Found 1 player in region.
</pre>

<pre>
No presence detected in this realm.
</pre>

Setting
Description
Enables or disables automatic region scanning.
Sound ON / Sound OFF
Enables or disables the automatic proximity-alert sound.
Set Dist
Sets the distance at which the proximity-alert sound will play.
Reset Dist

* +0.01 / -0.01 — Increases or decreases the size by 1%.
* +0.05 / -0.05 — Increases or decreases the size by 5%.
* +0.10 / -0.10 — Increases or decreases the size by 10%.

The HUD cannot be resized while you are attacking. Stop your current attack before opening this menu.

The Resting Nexus offers protection from blood loss for a specified duration, currently set at 14 days. You have the choice to age during this period or remain unchanged. Opting for 14 days without aging incurs a fee of 250 Lindens, while choosing aging costs 500 Lindens. Aging occurs gradually, with one night passing for every two days, ensuring a balanced progression. This duration was chosen to maintain fairness, preventing abuse by creating alternate accounts solely for aging. The Resting Nexus provides security during periods of absence from the computer, yet players remain vulnerable to attacks.
The Blood Well has multiple uses. You can deposit blood, withdraw blood, or transfer blood to another player. To use the Blood Well, it costs 5 Lindens to deposit, withdraw, or transfer.

If you deposit blood, it will add the amount of blood you deposited to the total amount you have deposited. It will also deduct that amount of blood from you in-world.

When you withdraw blood, the amount you withdraw will be added to your total blood in-world.

For transferring blood to another player, you will need to enter the key of the other player. Once you've clicked on the device to pay, the other player can access the blood by withdrawing it from the Blood Well.

Elixirs are consumable items used to restore or revive your avatar in Descendants of Darkness. These interact with the human feeding system, not other players.

Types of Elixirs
; Revival Elixir (Red)
: Used to fully revive your avatar after death.

; Breath of Vitality Elixir (Teal)
: Used to restore humans that have been drained by feeding (when their blood has been taken).

Cost
Each elixir costs 250 Linden Dollars (L$).

They can be purchased at the Descendants of Darkness main land.

How to Use
# Purchase the elixir:
#* Right-click the elixir vendor
#* Select Pay and enter L$250
# Take the item:
#* Right-click the elixir
#* Select Take to move it into your inventory
# Use the elixir:
#* Attach it to your avatar
#* Click the elixir in your hand
#* Select Open Bottle
#* Confirm by selecting Yes

Once consumed, your avatar will be restored to full health.

Using Elixirs on Humans
Elixirs can also be used on humans.

* Once purchased, you can send the elixir to a human
* The human must attach the item
* They then use it the same way by opening and drinking the elixir

This allows you to restore humans that have been killed by feeding.

Essence Chest
The Essence Chest serves as a secure repository for your essence. Upon your demise, your essence would otherwise be lost, making it advisable to store it within the chest to prevent any loss. With the Essence Chest, you have the capability to deposit and withdraw essence at will. Moreover, you retain control over who can access your stored essence, with options to limit access to yourself, a select group, or open it to everyone. Additionally, you can track all transactions made with your essence through the transaction history feature. This provides transparency regarding who has withdrawn essence from your Chest. Finally, you have the ability to customize the appearance of your Essence Chest by selecting from various texture colors, including Gold, Blue, and Black.
The Overseer Guide
The Overseer is a monitoring device that allows you to track yourself or another player. It can alert you when the monitored player is attacked, nearing starvation, or needs help while offline.

If the tracked player is attacked, the Overseer will send a notification in Nearby Chat and, if configured, to Discord through a webhook.

----
How Alerts Work
The server checks for attacks every 15 minutes on the hour. If an attack has occurred, the Overseer will send an alert within that 15-minute window.

Alerts may include:

* Attack notifications
* Near starvation warnings
* Discord webhook notifications, if added

----

What the Overseer Can Do
With the Overseer, you can:

* Monitor yourself or another player
* Receive attack alerts
* View attack logs for up to 3 days
* View death logs
* View kill logs
* Remotely donate blood to an offline player
* Add Discord webhook alerts
* Remove the tracked player and add a new one

----

How to Use the Overseer
# Rez the Overseer.
# Touch the Overseer to open the menu.
# Add yourself, or have the player you want to monitor touch it.
# Both players must be alive when adding a player.
# The tracked player may be resting, but they cannot be dead.

The Overseer hover text will change color depending on the tracked player’s health:
1. Donate Blood
The Donate Blood option allows you to remotely feed the tracked player.

To donate blood:

* The tracked player must have been offline for at least 4 hours.
* You must accept the debit permissions popup.
* The cost is L$50 per 0.500 liters.
* Donations increase in 0.500 liter increments.

This is useful when a player cannot log in to feed themselves.<blockquote>Important: Debit permissions allow the Overseer to charge your account for the blood donation.</blockquote>
----

2. View Attack Logs
The View Attack Logs option lets you review attacks against the tracked player.

You can view logs for:

* Today
* Yesterday
* The day before yesterday
Log Paging System
Attack logs, kill logs, and death logs all use a paging system.

Each page can display up to 4 logs. The Overseer can print up to 4 pages at a time. Once those pages are printed, you may be asked if you want to view more.

If you click More, the Overseer will print older pages.

Think of the logs like a book:

* The newest logs are on the highest page numbers.
* When the logs print in Nearby Chat, the newest entries appear at the top.
This option turns off attack alerts for the tracked player.

When attack alerts are turned off:

* You will no longer receive Nearby Chat attack messages.
* Discord webhook attack alerts will also stop.

----

6. Turn Off Near Starvation Alert
This option turns off near starvation alerts.

When this is turned off, you will not receive a Nearby Chat message when the tracked player is close to dying from lack of feeding.
----

7. Set Starvation Alert
The Set Starvation Alert option allows you to choose when you want to be warned before the tracked player dies from lack of feeding.

You can choose to be alerted:

* 1 day before death
* 2 days before death
* 3 days before death

For example, if you select 1 day, you will receive a notification in Nearby Chat and Discord when the player is within one day of dying from starvation.

If the alert is set to 1 day and you receive the warning, the player will die at midnight if they are not fed.
----

8. Remove Player from Overseer
This option removes the currently tracked player from the Overseer.

After removing a player:

* You will no longer receive notifications about them.
* You may add a new player to the Overseer.

----

9. Add Discord Webhook
This option allows you to add a Discord Webhook URL to the Overseer.

Once added, the Overseer can send alerts to your chosen Discord channel when:

* The tracked player is attacked
* The tracked player is near death from starvation

<blockquote>Warning: Keep your Discord Webhook URL private. Anyone with the URL may be able to send messages to that Discord channel.</blockquote>
----

How to Add a Discord Webhook to the Overseer
Step 1: Create a Discord Webhook
# Open Discord.
# Go to the server where you want Overseer alerts to appear.
# Click the server name in the top left.
# Select Server Settings.
# Click Integrations in the sidebar.
# Under Webhooks, click Create Webhook.
# Choose the channel where alerts should be sent.
# Customize the webhook name and avatar if desired.
# Click Copy Webhook URL.

----

Step 2: Add the Webhook URL to the Overseer
# Touch the Overseer to open the menu.
# Select Add Discord Webhook.
# Paste the Discord Webhook URL.
# Confirm the change to save it.

----

Step 3: Test the Webhook
After adding the webhook, test it to make sure alerts are working.

You can test by:

* Simulating an attack on the tracked player
* Checking the selected Discord channel for the alert message

If the alert appears in Discord, the webhook is working correctly.
Witches are one of the four playable species in Descendants of Darkness. They wield magic, draw upon Energy, and can build Witch Resurrection on eligible dead regular humans. Completing the spell schedules a human's return; it does not revive them immediately.
This page covers the Witch-specific parts of play. For rules shared by every species, see Gameplay, Combat, and the Main HUD guide.
Seloria and the Witches
The Descendants of Darkness lore names Seloria, the Witchmother as one of three born of the Abyss. She stole the language of gods and wove it together with the whispers of the Void, creating the first Witches.

That lore establishes Witches as heirs to arcane knowledge and the power to bind souls through magic. Witch Resurrection expresses that identity in gameplay by calling dead mortals back toward life.

Witch identity and role
Witches are Energy-based practitioners of magic. They can fight other players, confront Abominations, advance through the common age-based combat system, and interact with regular humans through Resurrection.

Witch Resurrection is a process rather than an instant revival. A dead human must first become eligible, progress must then be built to 100%, and the completed spell schedules a later return.

Energy and combat
Witches use Energy rather than Blood. A Self Scan or public player scan shows current and maximum Energy; maximum capacity, combat strength, attack range, and scanning range develop through the age groups. See the Self-Scan guide for the fields shown by the HUD.

Witch attacks use magic as their species identity. Damage and attack rate remain consistent with other species in the same age group; see Species-Specific Attacks and Combat for the shared rules.

Making real Witch Resurrection progress can restore Witch Energy.

Interactions with regular humans
A regular human is not a registered player. Humans have their own blood level and can be examined with the HUD's Human Scan.

Witch Resurrection works only on an eligible dead regular human. It cannot be used on:

* Living humans
* Registered players
* Abominations

Witch Resurrection
Witch Resurrection has two separate 21-day periods: an eligibility wait after death and a scheduled-revival wait after Resurrection reaches 100%.
The earliest normal return is therefore roughly 42 days after death when a Witch completes Resurrection as soon as the initial 21-day wait ends. If no Witch completes it immediately, the total time is longer.

Initial 21-day cooldown
For the first 21 days after a regular human is killed, Witch Resurrection cannot begin. Scans describe this wait using Revivable in. When the countdown ends, the dead human becomes eligible for Resurrection progress.

Building Resurrection Progress
Once the human is eligible, a Witch can begin building Resurrection Progress. Each successful use that makes real progress moves the spell closer to 100%, can restore Witch Energy, and refreshes the unfinished spell's activity window.

Unfinished Resurrection progress expires after 7 days without further progress. A later attempt must begin the progress again if the partial spell has expired.

Completion and scheduled revival
Reaching 100% does not immediately revive the human. Instead:

* Resurrection is scheduled.
* The Witch who completes the progress is recorded and credited.
* The completion contributes to the Witch Resurrections statistic.
* A second 21-day period begins before the human returns.

During this scheduled period, scans use Revive in to show the remaining time. If Resurrection is already scheduled, another attempt reports that it is already scheduled rather than beginning another revival.

When the scheduled revival completes, the regular human returns with 1.0 litre of blood.

Witch Revive Tracker
The Witch Revive Tracker is a private, login-required Witch page. It can show:

* Mortals currently being revived
* The time remaining before each return
* The player who originally killed the mortal
* Mortals recently restored to life

The tracker is available to Witches; non-Witches do not receive Witch revival records.

Witches, Hunters, and human death
Hunter Protection and Witch Resurrection can affect the same regular human at different stages:

# A Hunter protects a living human.
# Another player kills that human while the Protection is active.
# After the initial Resurrection wait, a Witch may build progress and schedule the human's return.
# The Hunter's private Protected by Me view may show the Witch revival status.

Witch Resurrection does not replace Hunter Protection. Protection applies while a regular human is alive; Resurrection applies after an eligible regular human is dead.

Witches and Abominations
Witch Resurrection does not work on Abominations. Abominations have their own combat, reward, scanning, and return behaviours; see Abominations rather than treating them as ordinary Resurrection targets.

Statistics and scanning
Witch-related information appears across the HUD and website:

* Self and public player scans use Energy for Witches and may identify their current species and Coven affiliation.
* Human scans can expose Resurrection progress and state.
* During the initial wait, scans use Revivable in.
* After completion, scans use Revive in and may identify the Witch responsible.
* Player profiles can display Witch Resurrections.
* The Witch Resurrections leaderboard ranks completed Resurrections (login required).
* The private Witch Revive Tracker shows current and recent revivals.

For scanning ranges, public and private scan fields, and human status information, see the Scan Others guide.

Hierarchy and changing species
Witches take part in the game's wider lineage and organisational systems. See Player Hierarchy for the current hierarchy guide and Species Change for the in-world device used to change species.

Species choice affects your resource, combat identity, human ability, affiliation type, and roleplay. Review the cost and current restrictions before changing.

Rules
The Dark Oath applies to Witches as it does to every player. In particular, scans and system information are protected by the Masquerade and must not be disclosed to non-players.
Hunters are one of the four playable species in Descendants of Darkness. They fight with bladed weapons, draw upon Energy, and can place Hunter Protection on living regular humans. Protection reduces the damage a human receives while it is being built and, once completed, allows the Hunter to receive distress alerts when that human is in danger.

This page covers the Hunter-specific parts of play. For rules shared by every species, see Gameplay, Combat, and the Main HUD guide.

Hunter identity and role
Hunters are Energy-based combatants whose gameplay centres on bladed weapons and the defence of regular humans. Their role is not limited to protection: Hunters can fight other players, confront Abominations, advance through the same age-based combat system as the other species, and take part in the wider hierarchy of the game.

No separate Hunter creator is established in the current wiki lore. Hunter identity is therefore defined here by its player-facing role and abilities rather than by an invented origin.

Energy and combat
Hunters use Energy rather than Blood. A Self Scan or public player scan shows current and maximum Energy; maximum capacity, combat strength, attack range, and scanning range develop through the age groups. See the Self-Scan guide for the fields shown by the HUD.

Hunter attacks use bladed weapons as their species identity. Damage and attack rate remain consistent with other species in the same age group; see Species-Specific Attacks and Combat for the shared rules.

Hunters do not gain Energy by damaging regular humans. They can gain Energy through qualifying combat against players and Abominations, and making real Hunter Protection progress can also restore Energy.

Interactions with regular humans
A regular human is not a registered player. Humans have their own blood level and can be examined with the HUD's Human Scan. Hunters may attack regular humans, but their defining human ability is Protection.

Hunter Protection works only on a living regular human. It cannot be applied to:

* Registered players
* Abominations
* Dead humans

Hunter Protection
Hunter Protection is built as a percentage. The HUD's Human Scan can show the current Protection progress on a regular human.

Applying Protection
Each successful use that makes real progress moves the human closer to 100% Protection. Real progress can restore some Hunter Energy and refreshes the unfinished Protection's activity window.

The Hunter who completes the process at 100% is credited with the Protection. Completion contributes to the Hunter Protections statistic and begins a full 21-day Protection period.

Partial Protection and damage mitigation
Protection helps before it is complete. A human's damage mitigation is half of the current Protection percentage:

Protection progress !! Damage mitigation
20% || 10%
40% || 20%
60% || 30%
80% || 40%
100% || 50%

Mitigation is capped at 50%.

Expiry and duration
An unfinished Protection expires after 7 days without further progress. Making additional real progress before then keeps the attempt active.

Once Protection reaches 100%, it is complete and remains active for 21 days. The completed Protection enables the distress-alert behaviour described below.

Protected-human distress alerts
Distress alerts apply only while a fully completed Hunter Protection is active.

When an alert begins
When real damage leaves the protected human at 50% blood or lower, a distress incident can begin. The protecting Hunter is told:

* Which protected human is under attack
* Who the attacker is
* The region or map location of the attack

The attacker is warned that the human is protected and that the Hunter has been notified.

Continued attacks and reset behaviour
Continued damage during the same incident does not repeatedly spam the Hunter. Each attacker can still receive their own warning, so a different attacker who joins the incident may be warned even when the Hunter has already received the main alert.

A later hit can create a fresh Hunter alert when any of the following occurs:

* Five full minutes pass with no damage to the protected human.
* An attack happens in a different region.
* The human recovers above 50% blood, ending the incident, and is later reduced to 50% or lower again.

Lethal hits and the protecting Hunter
A lethal hit that crosses the 50% threshold can still trigger the distress warning before the human's death is recorded. There is no additional distress-HUD warning simply because the human then dies.

The protecting Hunter does not trigger the normal distress response by attacking their own protected human. If that Hunter kills the human, the death does not count as a Protected Human Kill against their own Protection.

Protected Human Kills
Killing a regular human while a fully completed Protection is active can count as a Protected Human Kill. These kills have daily, weekly, monthly, and all-time rankings on the Protected Human Kills leaderboard (login required).

Player profiles can include both Hunter Protections and Protected Human Kills. Completed Protections also have their own Hunter Protections leaderboard (login required).

Protected Human Tracker
The Protected Human Tracker is a private, login-required record of activity involving fully protected regular humans.

Attacked or Killed by Me is available to signed-in players and can show protected humans they attacked or killed. Repeated attacks may be grouped together with the number of attacks, the latest attack, the region, and whether the human died.

Protected by Me is the Hunter-only view. It can show the humans protected by that Hunter, attackers and repeat attacks, whether and where a protected human died, and Witch revival information when applicable.

Hunters, Witches, and human death
Hunter Protection and Witch Resurrection can affect the same regular human at different stages:

# A Hunter protects a living human.
# Another player kills that human while the Protection is active.
# After the human becomes eligible, a Witch may build Resurrection progress and schedule their return.
# The Hunter's Protected by Me view may show the relevant Witch revival status.

Protection itself cannot be applied to a dead human; returning the dead is the Witches' role.

Hunters and Abominations
Abominations cannot receive Hunter Protection. They are separate combat targets that can carry larger blood stores and individual Essence rewards. Qualifying combat against them can restore Hunter Energy. See Abominations for scanning, rewards, and tracking information.

Statistics and scanning
Hunter-related information appears across the HUD and website:

* Self and public player scans use Energy for Hunters and may identify their current species and Order affiliation.
* Human scans can display Protection progress.
* Player profiles can display Hunter Protections and Protected Human Kills.
* Website leaderboards rank Hunter Protections and Protected Human Kills.
* The private Protected Human Tracker records relevant protected-human activity.

For scanning ranges, public and private scan fields, and human status information, see the Scan Others guide.

Hierarchy and changing species
Species choice affects your resource, combat identity, human ability, affiliation type, and roleplay. Review the cost and current restrictions before changing.
