Abominations

From Descendants of Darkness Wiki

(Redirected from Abominations/Complete Guide)

Abominations are rare, corrupted human targets with larger blood stores, an individual Essence reward, and an Echo describing their corruption. You find, scan, and fight them through your DoD HUD. The player who delivers the killing blow receives the Essence reward.

Three named Abominations—the Creatures of the Void—also offer temporary powers: Riftstalker, The Writhing One, and Hollowmaw. Holding any of their powers makes you a Dread Champion.

Find and fight a creature

  1. Wear your DoD HUD and make sure you are alive, awake, and outside a Safe Zone. Move within scanning range of the avatar you want to check.
  2. Click Scan Others and choose the letter beside that avatar. Your chat shows the creature's name, Status, Blood, Reward, and Echo.
  3. For a named Void creature, read any power offer or cooldown message. This tells you whether its power is available to you; scanning does not reserve it.
  4. Move within attack range and face the target for a directional attack. Click your species' main attack control, choose the target if prompted, and select a damaging attack. Hunters use Focused or Relentless; Witches use Ethereal or Celestial.
  5. Stay within range and watch your combat display and chat. The killing blow earns the creature's Essence. Click the main attack control again during an attack if you want to stop.

Hunter Protection and Witch Resurrection cannot target Abominations. Their progress and ordinary human revival schedules are omitted from Abomination scans. See Scan Others and Combat for the general controls and restrictions.

Every Abomination kill adds to your lifetime Abomination kills and also counts as a human kill. Qualifying combat can restore Hunter Energy. A creature identified simply as Abomination awards Essence but no Void power; use the name in its scan to identify the three named creatures.

The three Void powers

Creature and power Benefit while held
Riftstalker — Riftstalker's Reach Normal attack reach is at least 5 metres. A longer range is not reduced.
The Writhing One — The Writhing One's Coil Attacks reach targets all around you, within attack range. You still attack one chosen target.
Hollowmaw — Hollowmaw's Hunger Maximum Blood or Energy capacity increases by 2. It does not automatically refill your resource.

Each power has one holder across the whole game. Up to three players can hold different powers, or one player can combine all three. Receiving one does not give you the others.

Claim a creature's power

  1. Scan the matching creature. An available power is named in the scan; a cooldown message gives your next eligible time.
  2. Deliver the killing blow while that power is available and you are off cooldown. You receive Essence and a HUD notice naming the power.
  3. Use Self Scan to check your Dread Champion title, held powers, and expiry.

If someone else holds the power when the creature dies, you receive Essence without taking their power. You also receive no power if you are on its cooldown, and no extra copy of one you already hold. Another player can claim the power first by killing another creature of the same type.

Steal powers through player combat

Scan a Dread Champion to see their held powers, then defeat them through ordinary player combat. Your killing blow takes each power for which you are off cooldown. Read your HUD notices and use Self Scan to check the result.

An ally's kill or a repeat kill can transfer powers too. If you are on cooldown for one of the victim's powers, they lose it but you do not receive it; it becomes available from its creature again. Other eligible powers can still transfer. Stolen powers keep their original expiry.

Cooldowns and losing powers

Each power has its own five-day cooldown (120 hours) from the most recent time you received it, through either a creature kill or theft. Losing it, logging out, or reaching midnight does not reset that wait. A cooldown for one power does not prevent you from claiming another.

Powers expire at the next midnight SLT, using Second Life's Pacific time. Keep your HUD worn and connected; you do not need to keep attacking to retain powers.

What happens Result
Another player kills you Eligible powers transfer; any the killer cannot receive become available again.
You die by another means, including a 1v1 challenge Your powers end and become available again. Challenge deaths do not transfer them.
Your HUD remains unreachable for two hours Your powers are released.
Midnight SLT arrives Your powers expire.

Once a power is available again, an eligible player can claim it by killing its matching creature the same day. They do not have to wait until tomorrow. When Hunger ends, your ordinary maximum returns and any Blood or Energy above it is reduced to fit.

Find creatures and follow your records

Sign in to the website and open Abomination Kills. Select View Abominations to browse living creatures. Use Search abominations..., Find, and Clear to search, then Back to Kills to return to rankings.

The living list shows shared blood, Essence reward, and Echo information. It does not show locations, teleport controls, power availability, or your cooldowns. Another player may defeat a listed creature first; check its HUD scan when you encounter it.

On the rankings, choose All Time, This Month, This Week, or Today, then use the species filter, player search, or Find me. Calendar periods use SLT. All Time counts lifetime kills; shorter periods count each different Abomination avatar once within that period. Repeated kills of a returning creature can therefore increase your lifetime total more than a period ranking.

Player profiles can show Abomination Kills. In Chronicles, choose Abomination Kills for recent events from the last 30 days. Hidden events and events withheld by a player's visibility choice are omitted. This feed does not show every repeated death. Website records can lag behind your HUD; allow them to refresh before comparing a recent result.

Returning and cleansing

Some Abominations can return as the same creature after death. A later kill still gives its normal reward, but never bypasses a power's availability or your cooldown.

A Breath of Vitality Elixir can revive a fallen Abomination as an ordinary human with 5 litres of blood. It removes the Abomination identity and prevents another transformation for 30 days. The elixir must be unused and belong to the person using it. Witch Resurrection cannot revive or cleanse an Abomination.

Rare transformations can occur when an eligible living ordinary human is scanned or genuinely damaged. Humans with active or partial Hunter Protection or Witch Resurrection are excluded. If an eligible human does not transform, repeated scans or attacks provide no further chance for 30 days. A later eligible encounter after that wait can provide another chance; no scan guarantees a transformation.
