Essence

Essence is a personal game resource used by several systems in Descendants of Darkness. A player's current amount appears in their private Self Scan.
Earning Essence
Each Abomination carries its own Essence reward. The player who lands the killing blow claims that reward.
Spending Essence
Essence has several documented uses:
- Bounties are funded with Essence.
- The Reawakening Shrine takes two Essence from the player performing a revival.
Other features may use Essence when stated by their current in-world device or game interface.
Protecting stored Essence
Essence held by a player is otherwise lost when that player dies. The Essence Chest can store Essence outside the player's carried balance and allows deposits, withdrawals, access control, and transaction history.
Website ranking
The login-required Essence On Hand leaderboard ranks current carried reserves.
