Realm Domination
Realm Domination is DoD's gridwide team territory mode in Second Life. Earn flags, claim regions, lay siege to rival teams, and defend the territory your team holds. You play using the Action Bar and Bag. The website lets you join, follow attacks, find your team's regions, compare standings, and review your results.
This guide is for existing DoD players.
The objective
Capture a region by planting a flag and helping its team fill a claim to 100%. Defend a region by pushing back an enemy flag while your team keeps ownership.
Eligible players influence the capture bar by being present outside safe areas in the same region. More eligible players on your side give you an advantage. Equal numbers hold the bar still. Combat helps you remove opponents from the count and protect your flag planter.
An owned region remains with its team until an opposing flag's claim reaches 100%. Draining the owner's control to zero does not, by itself, take the region.
Where you can play
Realm Domination follows DoD's gridwide play. You can play on any sim (region) in Second Life, except System Land and safe zones.
System Land is a sanctuary. You earn flags there alongside Essence, but cannot lay siege, plant flags, or influence a Realm battle there. Safe zones also block Realm play; a safe zone may cover a whole region or only part of it.
Join Realm Domination
- Wear your DoD HUD.
- Sign in to the DoD website. Use your HUD password or Enter with In-World Link. Your HUD password is separate from your Second Life account password.
- Open Gameplay → Realm Domination.
- In Your participation, turn on Take part.
- Wait for the saved confirmation, then check In-game status.
- Open the HUD's settings button and choose Action bar.
You can read the website page while opted out. Turning Take part on saves your choice; you still need to meet the in-world requirements below to influence a battle. The website's participation message does not mean you are currently online or being counted in a particular region.
Your choice remains saved between visits. To leave the mode, turn Take part off on the website. Closing the Action Bar, closing the website, or turning off the alert sound does not opt you out.
Your first capture
Get ready
- Earn a flag on System Land alongside Essence. See Flags for the requirements.
- Go to the Second Life sim you want to capture, outside System Land and safe zones.
- Stay alive and stand, walk, or run normally on a supporting surface.
- Open the Bag and click your flag, or click an assigned flag shortcut.
Lay Siege: weaken an enemy-held region
- If an enemy owns the region, choose Lay Siege from the flag dialog.
- Bring eligible attackers into the region to outnumber the defenders and lower the owner's control.
- Reduce the owner's bar to 50% or below so a flag can be planted.
You must carry a flag to begin Lay Siege, but starting the siege does not spend it. An Unclaimed region does not need a siege; go straight to planting. If enemy control is already at zero, plant directly instead.
Use: plant your flag and complete the capture
- In an Unclaimed region, or an enemy-held region at 50% or below, open your flag dialog.
- Choose Use to plant. A successful plant spends one flag.
- Keep the original planter alive and in the region. If an owner remains, lower its control to zero to begin your flag team's claim.
- Help your flag's team fill its claim to 100% to capture the region.
- Check your team's territory and your completed results on the website.
You do not need your own flag to help an existing attack or defense. A player carrying a flag must start a siege or plant the flag.
Who is on your team?
Your Realm team follows your current political allegiance automatically.
| Your current allegiance | Your Realm team |
|---|---|
| Outlaw without a Dynasty | You alone |
| Dynasty without a Clan | Everyone in that Dynasty |
| Dynasty in a Clan that follows no Bloodline leader | Everyone in that Clan |
| Clan following a Bloodline leader | Everyone in the Clans following that same leader |
Dynasty is the general name for a House, Pack, Coven, or Order. Your biological ancestry does not choose your Realm team.
Changing allegiance changes the team you help. Earlier results remain with the team you helped at the time. A flag already planted stays with its original team. If its planter changes teams, forward progress stops until that original planter is back in the region on the flag's original team.
When you count in a battle
You must be opted in, able to participate, alive with health remaining, and wearing a working HUD. Stay outside System Land and safe zones, on foot and supported by the ground, a floor, or a platform.
Standing, walking, and ordinary running count. The ground-speed limit is 5.5 metres per second, which allows normal Second Life running. Flying, sitting, crouching, falling, being knocked into the air, or moving too fast stops your influence and contribution time. After landing or teleporting, allow a fresh HUD update before expecting to count again.
A battle covers the whole region. Teammates can spread across its parcels outside safe areas; there is no circle you must stand inside around a flag. You do not need to rez a flag object, so a parcel's no-build setting does not prevent Realm play.
System Land and safe zones block planting and influence. A safe parcel does not make the rest of a region safe. A whole-region safe zone blocks Realm play throughout it. Follow the HUD's location message.
Normal DoD combat, death, hunger, and revival rules continue to apply. Players who have not joined Realm can still fight wherever ordinary combat allows, but they do not move the Realm bar or earn Realm contribution credit.
