Dark Rating
Dark Rating is a personal measurement of how active a player has been recently.
It is displayed as a percentage between 0% and 100% and is based on participation recorded through the current game HUD.
Dark Rating measures activity. It does not measure how evil, powerful, or dangerous a character is.

What Dark Rating Represents
Dark Rating provides an indication of a player's recent participation in the game.
A higher Dark Rating generally means that the player has been using the HUD and participating consistently during the recent activity period.
A lower Dark Rating may mean that the player is:
- New to the game.
- Returning after being away.
- Playing less frequently.
- Performing limited qualifying gameplay.
- Waiting for recent activity to be processed.
A low Dark Rating is not a punishment and does not mean that the player has broken any rules.
What Dark Rating Is Not
Dark Rating is not:
- A morality or alignment score.
- A measurement of character strength.
- A combat rating.
- An age level or rank.
- A currency or spendable resource.
- A permanent lifetime score.
- A Dynasty or Clan Weekly Score.
Having a 100% Dark Rating does not make a character stronger or provide additional attack damage.
Gameplay That Can Improve Dark Rating
Dark Rating improves through regular use of the current HUD and genuine participation in the game.
Gameplay that may help includes:
- Feeding on humans.
- Feeding on other players.
- Participating in player-versus-player combat.
- Depositing blood into a Blood Bank.
- Helping to revive another player.
- Siring a genuine new player.
- Fighting and defeating enemies such as Abominations.
- Participating in other supported game systems.
These activities are examples rather than a complete scoring guide.
Different activities may affect Dark Rating differently, and not every attempt will provide additional credit.
The best way to improve Dark Rating is to:
- Use the current HUD regularly.
- Participate consistently over time.
- Explore different supported gameplay systems.
- Interact naturally with the game and other players.
- Remain active across multiple days.
- Avoid repeatedly performing one action solely to increase the rating.
There is no need to follow a special activity routine. Consistent and genuine participation is the intended approach.
How Dark Rating Changes
Dark Rating uses a rolling record of activity from the most recent 28 days.
This means:
- Recent qualifying participation can cause the rating to rise.
- Older activity eventually leaves the calculation.
- Inactivity can cause the rating to fall over time.
- New participation replaces older activity as time passes.
- The rating does not reset simply because a new week begins.
- Changes may not appear immediately.
- Reaching 100% does not permanently lock the rating at 100%.
Dark Rating is normally recalculated once per day. Gameplay performed after the most recent calculation may not appear until the following update.
Weekly Qualification and Dark Rating
The weekly qualification requirement used by Dynasty and Clan Activity does not apply to Dark Rating.
Dark Rating and Dynasty or Clan Activity use separate calculations.
This means:
- Activity may affect Dark Rating even if a member has not yet qualified for the Dynasty or Clan Weekly Score.
- Reaching the Dynasty or Clan weekly requirement does not provide a Dark Rating bonus.
- Dark Rating does not increase the Dynasty or Clan Weekly Score.
- The Dynasty and Clan qualification requirement begins again each week, while Dark Rating continues to use its rolling activity period.
Consistency Matters
Dark Rating is intended to recognize continuing participation rather than one unusually active session.
Regular gameplay over time is therefore more valuable than repeatedly performing the same action within a short period.
For example:
- Playing naturally on different days can maintain the rating.
- Exploring different gameplay systems can provide varied participation.
- Taking time away can allow older activity to leave the calculation.
- Returning to regular play can gradually improve the rating again.
The exact amount awarded by each activity is not publicly displayed.
Fair-Play Protection
The exact activity values, internal limits, and calculation formula are kept private.
Publishing those details would make it easier to create repetitive routines intended only to inflate the rating.
The system instead provides players with the important principles:
- Consistent participation matters.
- Recent gameplay matters more than old gameplay.
- Repeating the same action does not provide unlimited progress.
- Not every HUD interaction qualifies.
- The same calculation is used for every player.
- Internal limits may be adjusted to preserve fairness.
Players should use the HUD normally and participate in genuine gameplay rather than attempting to calculate the fastest route to a particular percentage.
Where Dark Rating Appears
Dark Rating can be displayed through:
- The Self-Scan.
- Another player's public scan through the Scan Others option.
Because Dark Rating appears in a public player scan, other players may be able to see your current percentage.
Dark Rating and Dynasty or Clan Activity
Dark Rating is separate from Dynasty and Clan Activity.
| Dark Rating | Dynasty and Clan Activity |
|---|---|
| Belongs to an individual player | Belongs to a Dynasty or Clan |
| Measures recent personal activity | Measures qualifying member activity during a weekly competition |
| Displayed as a percentage | Displayed as Weekly and Lifetime Scores |
| Uses a rolling activity period | Uses weekly scoring periods |
| Used as a factor by Legacy | Used for Dynasty and Clan rankings |
Dark Rating does not add to or multiply a Dynasty or Clan Weekly Score.
The same gameplay may be considered by both systems, but each system calculates its results separately.
Dark Rating and Legacy
Dark Rating is one of the factors used by the Legacy System.
Legacy considers the activity of eligible descendants when calculating the strength of a family tree. Active descendants can provide more Legacy than descendants with a lower Dark Rating.
The exact Legacy requirements and generation rewards are provided on the Legacy page.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why has my Dark Rating not changed yet?
Dark Rating is not updated after every individual action. Recent participation may not appear until the next daily calculation.
Why is my Dark Rating decreasing?
Older activity eventually leaves the rolling 28-day period. If it is not replaced by new participation, the rating can decrease.
Can I repeatedly perform one action to reach 100%?
No single repeated action is intended to provide unlimited progress. Internal limits prevent one interaction from being repeated endlessly for activity.
Does Dark Rating reset every Monday?
No. Dark Rating uses a rolling 28-day activity period rather than a weekly reset.
Does the Dynasty or Clan weekly requirement apply to Dark Rating?
No. The weekly qualification requirement applies only to Dynasty and Clan Activity Scores.
Does a high Dark Rating make me stronger?
No. Character strength is determined by other game systems.
Does Dark Rating control Dynasty or Clan rankings?
No. Dynasty and Clan Activity Scores are calculated separately.
Can a new player have a low Dark Rating?
Yes. Dark Rating is based on recent recorded participation, so a new player will naturally begin with a lower rating.
Why does Legacy use Dark Rating?
Dark Rating helps Legacy measure whether descendants are genuinely active. Complete Legacy requirements and rewards can be found on the Legacy System page.
