Abominations are rare, corrupted human targets. Each one has a larger blood store, its own Essence reward, and an Echo that describes its corruption. You find, scan, and fight them with your DoD HUD. The player who delivers the killing blow receives the Essence.

Three named Abominations, the Creatures of the Void, also carry a temporary power. Hold any of their powers and you become a Dread Champion.

Abomination.

The three Void powers

Each Creature of the Void carries one power. Kill the creature to claim its power, or take the power from the player who holds it.

Riftstalker's Reach

From Riftstalker

  • Your normal attack reach becomes at least 5 metres.
  • If your range is already longer, it is not reduced.
The Writhing One's Coil

From The Writhing One

  • Your attacks reach targets all around you, within attack range.
  • You still attack one chosen target.
Hollowmaw's Hunger

From Hollowmaw

  • Your maximum Blood or Energy capacity increases by 2.
  • It does not refill your Blood or Energy automatically.

Who can hold a power

  • Each power has only one holder across the whole game.
  • Three players can each hold a different power, or one player can hold all three.
  • Receiving one power does not give you the others.
  • If you log out or take off your HUD for two hours, your powers are released.
  • Powers expire at the next midnight SLT. See Cooldowns and losing powers.

Find and fight a creature

You find and fight Abominations the same way you find humans to feed on. Their scan is what sets them apart:

  • Scan Others shows the creature's name, Status, Blood, Reward, and Echo.
  • A named Void creature's scan also shows a power offer or a cooldown message. This tells you whether its power is available to you; scanning does not reserve it.
  • A creature named simply Abomination awards Essence but no Void power.

What else is different:

  • The killing blow earns the creature's Essence.
  • Every Abomination kill adds to your lifetime Abomination kills and also counts as a human kill. Qualifying combat can restore Hunter Energy.
  • Hunter Protection and Witch Resurrection cannot target Abominations. Their progress and ordinary human revival schedules are left out of Abomination scans.

For a refresher on the controls, see Scan Others and Combat.

Claim and steal powers

Claim a creature's power

  1. Scan the matching creature. An available power is named in the scan; a cooldown message gives your next eligible time.
  2. Deliver the killing blow while that power is available and you are off cooldown. You receive Essence and a HUD notice naming the power.
  3. Use Self Scan to check your Dread Champion title, held powers, and expiry.

You receive the Essence but no power when:

  • someone else holds the power when the creature dies
  • you are on that power's cooldown
  • you already hold that power

Another player can claim the power first by killing another creature of the same type.

Steal powers through player combat

  1. Scan a Dread Champion to see which powers they hold.
  2. Defeat them through ordinary player combat. Your killing blow takes each of their powers for which you are off cooldown.
  3. Read your HUD notices and use Self Scan to check the result.
  • An ally's kill or a repeat kill can transfer powers too.
  • If you are on cooldown for one of the victim's powers, they lose it but you do not receive it. It becomes available from its creature again.
  • Their other eligible powers can still transfer to you.
  • Stolen powers keep their original expiry.

Cooldowns and losing powers

  • Each power has its own five-day cooldown (120 hours). It counts from the most recent time you received that power, by creature kill or theft.
  • Losing the power, logging out, or reaching midnight does not reset that wait.
  • A cooldown for one power does not stop you claiming another.
  • Powers expire at the next midnight SLT, using Second Life's Pacific time.
  • Stay logged in with your HUD worn. If you are logged out, or your HUD is off, for two hours, your powers are released.
  • You do not need to keep attacking to keep your powers.
What happens Result
Another player kills you Eligible powers transfer. Any the killer cannot receive become available again.
You die another way, including a 1v1 challenge Your powers end and become available again. Challenge deaths do not transfer them.
You are logged out, or your HUD is off, for two hours Your powers are released and become available again.
Midnight SLT arrives Your powers expire.

Once a power is available again, an eligible player can claim it by killing its matching creature the same day. They do not have to wait until tomorrow.

When Hunger ends, your ordinary maximum returns. Any Blood or Energy above it is reduced to fit.

Find creatures and follow your records

Browse living creatures

  1. Sign in to the website and open Abomination Kills.
  2. Select View Abominations to browse living creatures.
  3. Use Search abominations..., Find, and Clear to search. Select Back to Kills to return to the rankings.

The living list shows shared blood, Essence reward, and Echo information. It does not show locations, teleport controls, power availability, or your cooldowns. Another player may defeat a listed creature first, so check its HUD scan when you meet it.

Rankings

  1. Choose All Time, This Month, This Week, or Today.
  2. Use the species filter, player search, or Find me.
  • Calendar periods use SLT.
  • All Time counts lifetime kills.
  • Shorter periods count each different Abomination avatar once within that period. Repeated kills of a returning creature can raise your lifetime total more than a period ranking.

Profiles and Chronicles

  • Player profiles can show Abomination Kills.
  • In Chronicles, choose Abomination Kills for recent events from the last 30 days.
  • Hidden events and events withheld by a player's visibility choice are left out. The feed does not show every repeated death.
  • Website records can lag behind your HUD. Allow them to refresh before comparing a recent result.

Returning and cleansing

Returning creatures

Some Abominations can return as the same creature after death. A later kill still gives its normal reward, but it never bypasses a power's availability or your cooldown.

Cleanse an Abomination

A Breath of Vitality Elixir can revive a fallen Abomination as an ordinary human with 5 litres of blood.

  • It removes the Abomination identity.
  • It prevents another transformation for 30 days.
  • The elixir must be unused and belong to the person using it.
  • Witch Resurrection cannot revive or cleanse an Abomination.

How transformations happen

  • Rare transformations can occur when an eligible living ordinary human is scanned or genuinely damaged.
  • Humans with active or partial Hunter Protection or Witch Resurrection are excluded.
  • If an eligible human does not transform, repeated scans or attacks give no further chance for 30 days.
  • A later eligible encounter after that wait can give another chance. No scan guarantees a transformation.
