Essence
Essence is a personal game resource used by several systems in Descendants of Darkness. A player's current amount appears in their private Self Scan.
Earning Essence
Each Abomination carries its own Essence reward. The player who lands the killing blow claims that reward.
Region Essence Rewards
Players can earn Essence by spending time within eligible Descendants of Darkness regions through the Region Essence Rewards system.
To receive Region Essence Rewards, the player's Second Life account must be properly verified within the official Descendants of Darkness Discord.
Discord Verification Requirement
Discord verification is required to continue earning Region Essence Rewards.
If a player's Discord account is not verified:
Region Essence progression will be paused.
Any progress already earned during that day will remain intact.
No additional Region Essence will be granted until Discord verification has been completed.
Verification does not erase progress that has already been earned.
How to Verify
To complete Discord verification:
Join the official Descendants of Darkness Discord:

After joining, the DoD bot should contact you by direct message and guide you through the verification and role setup process.
If the bot does not contact you, locate the role-choice-setup channel and complete the setup process there.
After Verification
Once Discord verification has been successfully completed:
There is no need to contact Staff.
There is no need to reset or replace your HUD.
There is no need to restart your Region Essence progress.
Previously earned progress remains intact.
Region Essence Rewards will automatically resume once the system detects your verification during its next scheduled checks.
Players may then continue earning Region Essence while spending time within eligible DoD regions.
Spending Essence
Essence has several documented uses:
- Bounties are funded with Essence.
- The Reawakening Shrine takes two Essence from the player performing a revival.
Other features may use Essence when stated by their current in-world device or game interface.
Protecting stored Essence
Essence held by a player is otherwise lost when that player dies. The Essence Chest can store Essence outside the player's carried balance and allows deposits, withdrawals, access control, and transaction history.
Website ranking
The login-required Essence On Hand leaderboard ranks current carried reserves.
