The Realm of Darkness: A Skill-Based Gameplay Experience

The Realm of Darkness, a grid-wide combat and roleplay system within Second Life, ensures a fair and level playing field for all members. Whether you choose to play as a lycan, vampire, or witch, your experience is based solely on your abilities, devoid of favoritism or politics. Notably, our commitment to fairness extends to our financial model – supporting us financially does not grant any combat advantages. We pride ourselves on being a non-pay-to-win game, emphasizing equal opportunities and skill-based gameplay for all our members. Enhance your adventures with our high-quality and responsive HUD, and join a community where skill, not financial support, determines your success.

The Realm of Darkness presents a grid-wide roleplay and combat system, allowing interactions with other players anywhere in Second Life. Whether you encounter a rival, a new adversary, a potential friend, an old companion, or even a family member, the possibilities are diverse. Players can engage in combat throughout Second Life, excluding designated safe zones. The HUD indicates your presence in a Safe Zone, and any attempts to initiate combat within these areas will be restricted. Currently, only the A&D sims serve as safe zones; safe zones are not available for homes or other establishments.

We actively encourage both combat and roleplay experiences. While combat may not be everyone's preference, roleplayers have the opportunity to engage with diverse species, fostering a more immersive experience compared to systems that lack this variety. Whether interacting with family members or other players, the possibilities for engaging roleplay are only limited to your imagination.

Initiation and Gameplay Dynamics in The Realm of Darkness

When you join as a player, you'll receive a group invite, and upon acceptance, you can acquire the HUD. The HUD's artwork is tailored to your chosen species. The individual who introduced you to the game may invite you to join their house (vampires), pack (lycans), or circle (witches). Upon becoming a player, your blood level is not initially full. One of the initial tasks involves going out to feed. Ideally, your mentor will guide you through this process and demonstrate how the HUD functions.

While various species boast different attacks, it's important to note that the attack damage and rate remain consistent across all species within the same age group. The distinctions in attacks are solely for roleplay purposes, not for gaining advantages in combat scenarios.

I will use the word "house" interchangeably with "circle" and "pack." If you have joined a house, there might be some house rules created by the house leader. If the house is within a clan, there might be clan rules, and if you're in a bloodline, there might be bloodline rules. You might be wondering what the difference is between a house, clan, and bloodline.

Houses, Clans, and Bloodlines

When you first become a player you're initially part of a generic bloodline. This gives you the freedom of not being automatically put into the bloodline of the person that brought you into the game. If you choose to go into their house, you will take on their bloodline. There is one person in charge of a bloodline. Within a bloodline there are clans. I will use clans interchangeably for the term packs(lycans)/coven(witches).

  • Bloodline

A bloodline is one person in charge and two lower ranking officers. Currently, this is the highest position you can have in the game. In a bloodline there are clans.

  • Clans/tribes/covens

A clan is a group of houses(vampires)/packs(lycans)/circles(witches). A clan also has a leader and two lower ranking officers. You can think of a clan as a state. Within a state there are smaller cities. Currently to create a clan, you must have about 25 members within your house, the players must be active(not all alts or dead), you must also play the fee. When the clan is created it must contain two or more houses. A clan can pledge loyalty to an arch. A clan can have houses, packs, and circles.

  • Houses/packs/circles

For a house, pack, or circle to exist, it must have been created by a person that has ten followers or more, they must also pay the house fee. The difference between a house, pack, and circle is that a house only contains vampires, packs only contain lycans, and circles only contain witches.
