A complete guide to Realm Domination, the HUD Action Bar and Bag, and the website. For existing DoD players.

Realm Domination

Realm Domination is DoD's gridwide team territory mode in Second Life. Earn flags, claim regions, lay siege to rival teams, and defend the territory your team holds. You play using your HUD's Action Bar and Bag. The website lets you join, follow attacks, find your team's regions, compare standings, and review your results.

This guide is for existing DoD players.

The objective

Capture a region by planting a flag and helping its team fill a claim to 100%. Defend a region by pushing back an enemy flag while your team keeps ownership.

Eligible players influence the capture bar by being present outside safe areas in the same region. More eligible players on your side give you an advantage. Equal numbers hold the bar still. Combat helps you remove opponents from the count and protect your flag planter.

An owned region remains with its team until an opposing flag's claim reaches 100%. Draining the owner's control to zero does not, by itself, take the region.

Where you can play

Realm Domination follows DoD's gridwide play. You can play on any sim (region) in Second Life, except Systemland and safe zones.

Systemland is a sanctuary. You earn flags there alongside Essence, but cannot lay siege, plant flags, or influence a Realm battle there. Safe zones also block Realm play; a safe zone may cover a whole region or only part of it.

Join Realm Domination

  1. Wear your DoD HUD.
  2. Sign in to the DoD website. Use your HUD password or Enter with In-World Link. Your HUD password is separate from your Second Life account password.
  3. Open Gameplay → Realm Domination.
  4. In Your participation, turn on Take part.
  5. Wait for the saved confirmation, then check In-game status.
  6. Open the HUD's settings button and choose Action bar.

You can read the website page while opted out. Turning Take part on saves your choice; you still need to meet the in-world requirements below to influence a battle. The website's participation message does not mean you are currently online or being counted in a particular region.

Your choice remains saved between visits. To leave the mode, turn Take part off on the website. Closing the Action Bar, closing the website, or turning off the alert sound does not opt you out.

Your first capture

Get ready

  1. Earn a flag on Systemland alongside Essence. See Flags for the requirements.
  2. Go to the Second Life sim you want to capture, outside Systemland and safe zones.
  3. Stay alive and stand, walk, or run normally on a supporting surface.
  4. Open the Bag and click your flag, or click an assigned flag shortcut.

Lay Siege: weaken an enemy-held region

  1. If an enemy owns the region, choose Lay Siege from the flag dialog.
  2. Bring eligible attackers into the region to outnumber the defenders and lower the owner's control.
  3. Reduce the owner's bar to 50% or below so a flag can be planted.

You must carry a flag to begin Lay Siege, but starting the siege does not spend it. An Unclaimed region does not need a siege; go straight to planting. If enemy control is already at zero, plant directly instead.

Use: plant your flag and complete the capture

  1. In an Unclaimed region, or an enemy-held region at 50% or below, open your flag dialog.
  2. Choose Use to plant. A successful plant spends one flag.
  3. Keep the original planter alive and in the region. If an owner remains, lower its control to zero to begin your flag team's claim.
  4. Help your flag's team fill its claim to 100% to capture the region.
  5. Check your team's territory and your completed results on the website.

You do not need your own flag to help an existing attack or defense. A player carrying a flag must start a siege or plant the flag.

Who is on your team?

Your Realm team follows your current political allegiance automatically.

Your current allegiance Your Realm team
Outlaw without a Dynasty You alone
Dynasty without a Clan Everyone in that Dynasty
Dynasty in a Clan that follows no Bloodline leader Everyone in that Clan
Clan following a Bloodline leader Everyone in the Clans following that same leader

Dynasty is the general name for a House, Pack, Coven, or Order. Your biological ancestry does not choose your Realm team.

Changing allegiance changes the team you help. Earlier results remain with the team you helped at the time. A flag already planted stays with its original team. If its planter changes teams, forward progress stops until that original planter is back in the region on the flag's original team.

When you count in a battle

You must be opted in, able to participate, alive with health remaining, and wearing a working HUD. Stay outside Systemland and safe zones, on foot and supported by the ground, a floor, or a platform.

Standing, walking, and ordinary running count. The ground-speed limit is 5.5 metres per second, which allows normal Second Life running. Flying, sitting, crouching, falling, being knocked into the air, or moving too fast stops your influence and contribution time. After landing or teleporting, allow a fresh HUD update before expecting to count again.

A battle covers the whole region. Teammates can spread across its parcels outside safe areas; there is no circle you must stand inside around a flag. You do not need to rez a flag object, so a parcel's no-build setting does not prevent Realm play.

Systemland and safe zones block planting and influence. A safe parcel does not make the rest of a region safe. A whole-region safe zone blocks Realm play throughout it. Follow the HUD's location message.

Normal DoD combat, death, hunger, and revival rules continue to apply. Players who have not joined Realm can still fight wherever ordinary combat allows, but they do not move the Realm bar or earn Realm contribution credit.

HUD Action Bar and Bag

The HUD's Action Bar and Bag let you see your flags and choose siege and planting actions. The Realm display shows the region's capture bar while you play.

Action Bar and Bag layout

The HUD's settings button opens a menu with Settings and Action bar. Choose Settings for your HUD options. Choose Action bar to show or hide the Action Bar, Bag, and Realm display.

The Action Bar has twelve shortcut slots, arranged in two rows of six. The Bag button sits at the left end, the movement handle at the right end, and the Realm display above the bar. The Bag opens above its button with twelve cells, arranged three across and four down, plus page arrows.

The number of cells or shortcuts is not your flag allowance. All your flags share one stack, with a carrying limit of six.

Open and close the Action Bar

  1. Click the HUD's settings button.
  2. Choose Action bar.
  3. Choose Action bar again when you want to hide it.

Closing the bar also hides the Bag and Realm display. The bar remembers its open or closed choice, its position, and its assigned shortcuts. The Bag starts closed when you return.

Closing the bar does not leave Realm Domination. You can still count in a battle with the display hidden. Use Take part on the website to opt out.

Move the Action Bar

  1. Press and hold the movement handle at the right end of the bar.
  2. Drag the bar to a comfortable position.
  3. Release the mouse button.

The Bag and Realm display move with it. The position is saved. If the handle is outside the visible screen area, move the main HUD into view using its usual movement control so you can reach the bar, then place the bar where you want it.

Open and browse the Bag

  1. Open the Action Bar.
  2. Click the Bag button at its left end.
  3. Click a flag stack to open its actions.
  4. Click the Bag button again to close the Bag.

The flag stack shows how many flags you carry. Page arrows report the selected page in chat, such as Next page: 1/1. If there is only one page, an arrow does not create another page or another flag stack.

Use the flag dialog

Click a flag in the Bag to open a dialog headed Flag ×N, where N is your number of flags.

Button What it does
Lay Siege Begins a siege against an enemy-controlled region. You must carry a flag, but starting the siege spends none.
Use Plants a flag when the region and your character allow it. A successful plant spends one flag.
Assign Lets you put a flag shortcut on an Action Bar slot.
Close Closes the flag dialog and the Bag.

Lay Siege and Use appear only when available at your current location. If you are sitting, flying, or off the ground, the dialog can say Stand on the ground first. After landing, allow the HUD to update and reopen the dialog if necessary. A dialog closes automatically after 30 seconds.

Browsing the Bag, assigning a shortcut, and moving the bar do not spend flags.

Assign and clear a shortcut

  1. Open the Bag and click your flag.
  2. Choose Assign.
  3. Click the Action Bar slot where you want the shortcut.
  4. Later, click that slot to open the flag dialog directly.

From an assigned slot, the dialog can offer Lay Siege, Use, Clear, and Close. Choose Clear to remove that shortcut. Your flags remain in the Bag. Close from a shortcut closes only the dialog.

A shortcut points to your existing flag stack. Assigning several shortcuts does not create more flags. Shortcuts are saved and can remain assigned when your flag balance reaches zero, ready for when you earn more.

If you click a shortcut just after arriving in a region, the dialog may wait until the region information has loaded.

Read the Realm display

The top line names your current region. The next line describes its state, team, and bar. Some team names are shortened to fit; click the display to read fuller information in chat.

Display label Meaning
Unclaimed No team owns the region. An eligible player can plant a flag to begin a claim.
Controlled A team owns the region. The percentage shows that owner's control, even if the bar is damaged or at zero.
Under siege The owner's bar is being fought over without a planted flag. The owner cannot lose the region from this alone.
Under attack A flag has been planted against the owner. The display names the owner and the flag's team.
Contested The percentage now shows the flag team's claim. If the region already has an owner, Held by names that owner until the claim reaches 100%.
Protected The owner has temporary Realm capture protection. Ordinary combat rules still apply.

For example, Under attack · Defending team · 40% · Flag: Attacking team shows the defender's remaining control. Later, Contested · Attacking team · 12% · Held by Defending team shows the attacker's growing claim. The defending team still owns the region at that point.

Click the Realm display to print fuller status in chat, including protection time when applicable, whether a flag is ready to plant, and how many flags you carry.

Influence and availability messages

An orange line can explain why you are not influencing the bar.

Message What to do
Your influence fades · touch the ground Return to a supporting surface and stay on foot.
Your influence returns… Give the HUD a few seconds to confirm that you are ready again.
Too swift · your influence scatters Return to ordinary walking or running speed.
Sanctuary · your influence sleeps You are on Systemland or in a safe zone. Move outside the sanctuary or safe zone to participate.

Other messages can include Join Realm to play, Cannot capture right now, Capture unavailable here, Realm paused, Realm unavailable, or Realm access suspended. Read these alongside the region state: a Controlled or Unclaimed label does not override a restriction on taking part.

An unclaimed safe location may show Claimed by The Darkness. This is a sanctuary message, not an opposing team you can defeat.

Loading region… is normal briefly after arrival. Reconnecting to Realm… means you should wait for an updated display before trying to plant. Realm display unavailable means the HUD cannot currently show usable Realm information; check again after it reconnects.

Chat notices and attack alerts

Local Realm notices tell you about events such as Siege begun, Flag planted, Flag ready to plant, Flag broken, Region captured, and Protection ended. Read the current display as well as the chat history; an earlier notice may describe a state that has since changed.

When an enemy plants a flag in territory your team owns, opted-in teammates with reachable working HUDs receive an attack alert, including teammates elsewhere. It names the planter and includes a clickable region map link. Laying siege without planting does not send this team alert.

The alert can also play a sound that only you hear. Change your own Attack alert sound setting under My campaign → Settings on the website. Turning it off keeps the chat alert. Your HUD's usual alert-sounds option does not control this Realm sound, and your choice does not change anyone else's sound.

Flags

A flag starts a claim for your Realm team. Carry one to begin a siege, or spend one to plant in an eligible region. You can help an existing battle without carrying a flag yourself.

Earn your first flags

  1. Turn on Take part on the Realm Domination website page.
  2. Wear your working DoD HUD and remain alive.
  3. Visit Systemland, where flags are earned alongside Essence.
  4. Make sure your DoD character meets the Systemland reward requirements, including a verified Discord link. If your HUD requests Discord verification, follow its instructions; the DoD Discord link is also available.
  5. Spend enough verified time there to reach the daily milestones.
  6. Check the flag stack in your Bag or Flags carried on the website.

The earning checks happen roughly every five minutes. Your first successful check establishes that you are there; counted time follows subsequent successful checks. A flag therefore may not arrive at the exact stopwatch minute you expect.

Offline time and gaps in confirmed presence do not count. A Discord requirement for Systemland rewards does not create a separate Discord requirement for every Realm battle. Systemland is a sanctuary for earning rewards; Realm battles take place elsewhere across Second Life, outside safe zones.

Daily earning and carrying limits

Rule Limit or milestone
First daily flag 30 verified minutes on Systemland
Second daily flag 60 verified minutes total that day
Maximum earned per day 2 flags
Maximum carried 6 flags
New earning day Midnight Second Life Time (SLT)

The second flag is earned at 60 minutes total: 30 more counted minutes after the first milestone. It does not require another full hour.

SLT follows Second Life's Pacific time, including its daylight-saving changes. Use SLT midnight for the daily allowance rather than your own local midnight.

Essence multipliers do not speed up flag earning or increase the two-flag daily allowance. Reaching your daily Essence earning cap does not prevent collection of a flag you have earned through valid time.

When your Bag is full

At six flags, your existing flags remain yours. You cannot collect more until there is space.

  1. Use a flag successfully so your balance drops below six.
  2. Return to Systemland.
  3. Complete another successful presence check on the same SLT day.

You can then collect any remaining flag entitlement you earned that day, within the two-flag daily allowance. Earned but uncollected entitlement expires at the next SLT day. Flags already in your Bag remain.

Lay Siege

  1. Go to an enemy-held region outside Systemland and safe zones.
  2. Stay alive and grounded, and open your flag in the Bag or from an assigned shortcut.
  3. Choose Lay Siege to begin lowering the owner's control.
  4. Help the attackers outnumber the defenders until the owner's bar reaches 50% or below.

You must carry at least one flag, but Lay Siege spends none. Unclaimed territory does not need a siege. If enemy control is already at zero, plant directly instead.

Use: plant a flag

  1. Go to the region you want to fight for, outside Systemland and safe zones.
  2. Stay alive and grounded.
  3. Click your flag in the Bag or an assigned shortcut.
  4. Choose Use to plant in an Unclaimed region or an enemy-held region at 50% or below.
  5. Keep the original planter alive and in the region, and help the flag's team complete its claim.
Action Flag cost
Lay Siege None; you must carry at least one flag
Use with a successful plant One flag
A refused plant None
Open the Bag or flag dialog None
Assign, Clear, or move a shortcut/bar None

You can plant in an Unclaimed region or an enemy-controlled region whose bar is 50% or below. There can be only one planted flag in a region. Your own team's holdings, safe areas, and capture protection block planting.

If players try to plant together, only one successful plant can take the available place. A refused attempt does not spend a flag.

A flag you successfully spend is not refunded if the capture fails, the planter dies, or the flag breaks. The Bag holds unused flags; a planted flag belongs to its current attempt.

What happens to unused flags?

Unused flags survive death, relogging, changes of allegiance, and opting out. They cannot be transferred to another player.

Turning Take part off stops flag earning. Turning it back on does not give you a new daily allowance: flags already earned that day still count toward the limit. Your counted earning minutes for that day restart when you rejoin.

If participation is suspended, flag earning and use are frozen. Your existing unused flags are kept.

Flags, slots, and cells

All your flags appear as one stack with a number. Twelve Bag cells or twelve Action Bar slots do not let you carry twelve flags.

Assign creates a shortcut to that stack. Clear removes a shortcut without deleting flags. An assigned shortcut can remain empty after you spend the last flag and become useful again when you earn another.

If a flag does not appear

  1. Check that Take part is on and your participation is available.
  2. Confirm you are alive, wearing a working HUD, and on Systemland.
  3. Complete any Discord verification requested for Systemland rewards.
  4. Allow the next presence check to happen.
  5. Check whether you have already earned two flags that SLT day or are carrying six.
  6. If the website is delayed, check the Bag too and wait for its current count.

Keep earning time and capture time separate. Earn flags alongside Essence on Systemland. Fighting elsewhere in Second Life does not replace the time needed on Systemland to earn flags.

Continue with HUD Action Bar and Bag or Capturing and Defending.

Capturing and Defending

Realm battles use one region-wide bar. During the control phase it measures the owner's control. During the claim phase it measures the planted flag team's claim. Read the named team and phase together with the percentage.

A region changes owner only when an opposing flag's claim reaches 100%. Zero control alone never removes the current owner.

Prepare for a battle

  1. Opt in on the website and wear your working HUD.
  2. Choose who will plant and make sure that player has a flag.
  3. Travel to the same Second Life sim, outside Systemland and safe zones. Realm Domination follows DoD's gridwide play.
  4. Remain alive and grounded on foot. A floor or raised platform counts as a supporting surface.
  5. Check the HUD's influence message before relying on your headcount.

You can spread across parcels in the region outside safe areas; no fixed flag radius is required. Flying, sitting, crouching, falling, knockback, and moving too fast remove a player's own influence until they are ready again. A player counts once, even with more than one HUD.

Capture Unclaimed territory

  1. Find a region showing Unclaimed, outside Systemland and safe zones.
  2. Open a flag from your Bag or shortcut.
  3. Choose Use. One flag is spent when planting succeeds.
  4. Keep the original planter alive and in the region.
  5. Bring more eligible flag-team players than eligible opponents into the region.
  6. Fill the claim from zero to 100%.

Your team then owns the region and receives 15 minutes of capture protection. No existing owner loses territory when an Unclaimed region is captured.

Equal eligible numbers hold the claim still. More opponents push it down. Only the planted flag's team can win that claim.

Take enemy territory

Lay Siege: lower the owner's control

  1. In an enemy Controlled region, open a flag from your Bag or shortcut.
  2. Choose Lay Siege. You must carry a flag, but starting the siege spends none.
  3. Bring eligible attackers into the region to lower the owner's bar to 50% or below.

Eligible owner-team players defend. Eligible players from all other teams apply pressure together. An attacking majority lowers the owner's bar. Simply passing through a quiet owned region does not begin a siege.

Use: plant your flag

  1. When the owner's control is 50% or below, open your flag dialog.
  2. Choose Use. A successful plant spends one flag and starts the flagged attack. Only one flag can be planted in a region.
  3. Keep the original planter alive and in the region while your team continues the attack.

Complete the capture

  1. Keep weakening the owner until its control reaches zero. The display changes to Contested and begins showing your flag team's claim.
  2. Outnumber everyone outside your flag's team and fill that claim to 100%.
  3. Ownership changes when the claim reaches 100%.

The old owner remains the holder throughout the growing enemy claim. Held by on the HUD identifies that owner.

If an enemy region is already at zero control with no flag planted, choose Use to begin the claim directly. Lay Siege is not offered there because nothing remains to drain.

If the owner's bar reaches zero without any planted flag, the owner keeps the region. Attackers must still plant and win a claim. Owners can return and refill their control.

Fighting alongside another attacking team

During the control phase, different non-owner teams help drain the owner together. Once a flag's claim begins, everyone outside that flag's team opposes its claim, including the previous owner and other attacking teams.

Agree which team will plant before the assault. Helping a different team's siege does not put you on that team's flag or award your team its capture.

How the bar moves

An active battle normally updates about every two seconds. Each extra eligible player on one side gives one point of advantage, up to four points per update.

Situation Bar movement per update
Six owners defending against five attackers Owner gains 1 point
Three defenders against three attackers Owner's bar stays still
No defenders against five attackers Owner loses 4 points
Four flag teammates against one opponent during a claim Flag claim gains 3 points

With no interruptions, one unopposed player can fill a full claim in about 200 seconds. A maximum advantage can fill it in about 50 seconds. Taking a fully controlled enemy region requires draining one bar and filling another, so those ideal times become about 400 seconds solo or 100 seconds at maximum advantage, plus planting and update delays.

These are examples, not a countdown promise. Deaths, changing numbers, movement, safe areas, ties, and delayed HUD updates change the pace.

Protect the original planter

The flag needs its original planter alive and in the region for forward progress. Teammates can strengthen or hold the attempt, but cannot replace that player.

What happens Effect on the planted flag
The planter dies, including from hunger The flag breaks at the next capture update, even with teammates present.
The planter flies, sits, crouches, falls, or moves too fast while still confirmed in the region The planter's own influence stops. Eligible grounded teammates can keep moving the bar and earn their time. This alone does not break the flag.
The planter leaves, detaches the HUD, enters a safe area, opts out, changes away from the flag's team, or loses a working connection Forward progress stops. Eligible flag teammates can oppose enemies and hold existing progress, but cannot take over the planter's role.
No eligible flag teammate remains and the planter is no longer confirmed in the region The flag breaks after 30 continuously observed seconds.
A Contested claim is at zero and the flag team remains outnumbered The flag breaks after 20 continuously observed seconds.
The owner refills its control to 100% while the flag is planted The flag is repelled and the owner receives protection.

Once a flag is planted against an owner, an absent planter also stops attackers from lowering the owner's control. Defenders can still refill it. A planter who is only airborne or seated in the region does not stop grounded teammates from continuing the attack.

During a claim, opponents can push the claim down while the planter is away. A tie at zero does not trigger the outnumbered timer. Returning eligible teammates can stop the absence countdown; forward progress resumes when the original planter is back and ready, provided the flag survives.

Defend your region

  1. Respond to the team alert or check the website's Attack feed and Your team's regions.
  2. Travel to the region and bring eligible members of the owning team.
  3. Stay grounded outside safe areas and outnumber the attackers.
  4. Refill your control to 100% while the enemy flag is planted, or break the flag through combat and opposition.
  5. After a flag breaks, refill any remaining damage to 100% to gain protection from that flagged attack.

Killing the original planter breaks the flag at the next capture update. You cannot directly attack a separate flag object. Recovering only above 50% does not repel a planted flag; full recovery to 100% does.

If the enemy is already filling a claim, your team still owns the region. Break that flag and ownership stays with you, with your control at zero. Return eligible defenders to refill it.

Surviving a flagged attack records a team defense. Breaking a flag in previously Unclaimed territory does not award a defense to a team that never owned it. Refilling after a siege that never planted a flag does not count as a successful flag defense and does not grant this capture protection.

Protection, quiet territory, and safe areas

Realm Domination can be played on any sim in Second Life except Systemland and safe zones. Systemland is a sanctuary where you earn flags alongside Essence.

Protection lasts 15 minutes after a completed capture or a full recovery from a flagged attack. It blocks a new siege or flag plant while active. It does not grant immunity from ordinary combat where combat is normally allowed.

Ownership remains when protection ends or the owners leave. A quiet region's damaged bar does not automatically heal or decay. An eligible owner returning to a damaged region can begin restoring it.

A siege without a flag can settle when there are no enemies left and either control is full or no owner is present to refill it. It normally settles after 30 seconds; at zero with nobody there to refill, it can settle immediately. The remaining control value is kept.

Safe parcels and height-restricted safe areas exclude the players inside them. A whole-region safe zone blocks play everywhere in that region. If an ongoing flagged attack is paused by a whole-region safe zone, the website can keep it visible with its frozen bar and Safe zone — attack paused. A safe zone is not a timed protection countdown.

Personal contribution and team records

Result How you earn it
Capture helped Accumulate at least 30 seconds of eligible help for the winning flag team during that planted attempt.
Successful flags Your planted flag completes a capture. This is separate from capture-help credit.
Defense helped Normally accumulate at least 30 seconds helping the owner during a flagged attempt that it survives.
Shorter defense qualification If the flag breaks because its planter died or its team left, a defender still counted when it breaks can qualify with 20 seconds of help.
Time attacking / Time defending Your counted time participating in active territory fights.

Helping drain an owner before a flag is planted can record attacking time, but does not count toward that later flag's 30-second capture-help requirement. Arriving at the last moment does not automatically earn an assist.

Tied active fights can still earn contribution time. Quiet ownership, protection, and standing in an empty Unclaimed region do not earn fighting time. While the flag's planter is absent, merely holding existing progress gives the flag team no new attacking or capture-help time. Grounded teammates can still earn time when the planter is only airborne or seated in the region.

Death, departure, or opting out after valid help does not erase that earlier contribution. A player whose participation is suspended when an attempt finishes receives no personal capture or defense success credit for it.

A planter can earn both Capture helped and a successful flag result. They are separate measures. Teams record successful captures, successful defenses, regions held now, and regions lost. A region is lost when an opposing claim completes, not when its owner's control reaches zero.

Website Guide

The Realm Domination website page supports your in-world play. It saves your participation choice and attack-alert sound preference, shows current attacks and your team's territory, and records standings and completed attempts. Sieging, planting, and defending are played through your game HUD in Second Life.

Open the page

  1. Sign in to the DoD website with your HUD password or Enter with In-World Link.
  2. Open Gameplay → Realm Domination, or use the Realm Domination page.
  3. Choose one of its five tabs.
Tab What you use it for
Attack feed Follow planted flag attacks against existing owners.
Your team's regions Find your team's current territory and captures, and review its losses.
Team rankings Compare team results and current holdings.
Player rankings Compare individual contributions and flag successes.
My campaign Set your attack-alert sound and review your own history.

Your participation stays beside the selected tab on desktop. On a phone or narrow screen, it appears below the main content. Scroll down to reach it.

Your participation

  1. Find Your participation.
  2. Turn Take part on to join, or off to stop taking part.
  3. Wait for the saved confirmation and check Opted in or Opted out.
  4. Read In-game status to see whether your character can currently take part.

Your saved choice and your current availability are different. You can be opted in while the mode is unavailable or your character cannot currently participate. A suspension keeps your saved choice but blocks participation while it applies.

Message Meaning
You are taking part in Realm Domination. Your choice is on and your character can take part. This is not a check that you are online, wearing the HUD, or influencing a particular battle.
You have not opted in. Turn the switch on to save your choice. Your saved choice is off.
Your choice is saved. Realm Domination is unavailable right now. Your choice is on, but the mode is not currently available.
Your choice is saved, but your character can't take part right now. Your choice is on, but your character is currently unable to participate.
A participation-suspension message Participation is blocked; your saved choice is retained.

Flags carried shows your recorded unused flag balance. Unavailable means the number could not be shown; it does not mean zero.

View my results opens My campaign. Expand How to play for the page's short reminder to use the Realm controls in your HUD.

Only you can see your participation panel. Closing the website or hiding the Action Bar does not change its saved switch.

Attack feed

The shared feed shows a region when a flag has been planted against an existing holder. It names the region, defending team, attacking team, and current bar out of 100. Teleport opens its Second Life map page in another browser tab.

An attack remains listed until that flag captures, is repelled, or breaks. At zero control the same teams stay visible. During the next phase, Capture progress shows the flag team's growing claim. The defending team still owns the region until the claim reaches 100%.

  1. Open Attack feed.
  2. Search for a region name if needed.
  3. Choose All statuses, Control phase, or Capture phase.
  4. Read both team names and the bar's phase before deciding where to help.
  5. Choose Teleport to open the region's map, then use Second Life to travel there.

A siege before a flag is planted does not appear in this feed. A flag claiming previously Unclaimed territory does not appear either. An empty feed therefore does not mean nobody is playing Realm.

If a whole-region safe zone freezes an attack, its card can remain visible as Safe zone — attack paused, with both teams and the frozen bar.

Your team's regions

This tab uses your current Realm team. Its quiet holdings are visible to its own members, rather than listed in a directory for rival teams.

Read the team summary

The summary shows your team name and two sets of totals.

Group Figures
Current territory Held, Under attack, Capturing
Selected historical period Captures, Defences, Regions lost

Choose Today, This week, or All time for the historical totals. Current territory describes the position now regardless of that period. The summary covers the whole team; searching the list does not reduce it to only the cards you found.

A region remains held by its owner even while its control is zero or an enemy claim is growing. A team's Unclaimed capture in progress can also appear in this tab, but does not count as held until won.

Recorded results updated tells you when the historical totals were last confirmed. A dash means a figure is unavailable, not an assumed zero.

Current regions

  1. Select Current regions.
  2. Search by region name, or choose a Status filter.
  3. Use All statuses, Held, Capture phase, Protected, or Under attack.
  4. Read the card's state, controlling or defending team, flag team where present, and bar.
  5. Choose Teleport to open its Second Life map page.

The list includes your team's holdings, its holdings under attack, and regions carrying your team's capture flag. This includes claims on Unclaimed land that are absent from the shared Attack feed. A failed claim leaves the list once its flag is gone unless your team owns the region.

Card label Meaning
Controlled The region has an owner and is not shown as a flagged attack or protected state.
Under attack An enemy flag is attacking the holder, including during the growing enemy claim.
Capturing A flag is claiming territory that has no existing owner.
Protected The region has timed Realm capture protection.
Safe zone The whole region is safe; there is no protection countdown.
Safe zone — attack paused A whole-region safe zone is keeping an existing attack paused.

For timed protection, Protection ends in shows the time remaining. Protection ending… can appear briefly while the card awaits the next confirmed state. Protection time unavailable means the countdown could not be shown.

A whole-region safe zone uses Safe zone instead of a timed countdown. An owned safe region remains in its team's holdings and held count.

Lost regions

  1. Select Lost regions.
  2. Choose Today, This week, or All time.
  3. Search by region name if needed.
  4. Read the result, its time, and the opposing team.

Losses marked Region lost and Captured by record an opposing flag's completed 100% claim.

Some older entries show Control reached zero, Flag team, and Zero control under the earlier rule; capture not confirmed. These are earlier zero-control records, not proof of a completed enemy capture. The historical zero bar shown on those cards is not the region's live bar.

Losses remain in history if your team later recovers the region. The same region can appear more than once after separate losses. Teleport opens the region's current map, not a replay of the historical battle.

Team rankings

  1. Open Team rankings.
  2. Choose the measure you want to compare.
  3. For a historical measure, choose Today, This week, This month, or All time.
  4. Search for a team, or choose Find my team to locate your own standing.
Measure What it compares
Captures Successful team captures.
Defenses Successful defenses against planted flags.
Regions held How many regions each team owns now.
Time attacking Recorded eligible attacking time.
Time defending Recorded eligible defending time.

Regions held is a current count, so it has no historical period. These aggregate counts do not reveal rival teams' quiet territory locations.

Each measure is its own ranking; there is no combined Realm score. Supporting figures beside a result give context but are not added together to create the rank.

Player rankings

  1. Open Player rankings.
  2. Choose the measure and time period.
  3. Search for a player, or choose Find me for your own standing.
  4. Open a player name to visit their profile where a link is available.
Measure What it compares
Captures helped Successful captures for which the player earned help credit.
Successful flags Completed captures from flags planted by the player.
Defenses helped Successful defenses for which the player earned help credit.
Time attacking The player's counted attacking time.
Time defending The player's counted defending time.

All player measures offer Today, This week, This month, and All time. A successful planter can appear in both Captures helped and Successful flags when they qualify for both.

Understand both ranking boards

The leading entries appear on a podium on the first unfiltered page. Further entries appear below it. Equal results share a rank and medal tier. Player names can show the display name with the Second Life username beneath it; team and player names link to their corresponding profiles where available.

Find me and Find my team clear an active search, open the page containing your entry, and highlight it briefly. If you or your team have no ranked result for the selected measure and period, the page explains that instead.

Both boards start with This week. If that first weekly view has no results, it may switch to All time. You can still deliberately choose an empty period yourself.

My campaign: attack-alert sound

  1. Open My campaign.
  2. Under Settings, find Attack alert sound.
  3. Turn it on or off and wait for the saved confirmation.

This controls only the sound your HUD plays when an enemy plants a flag in territory your team owns. The chat alert is still sent. The choice is yours alone and does not change teammates' sounds, your participation choice, or your HUD's usual sound options.

The sound choice starts on unless you change it. You can save it while opted out; doing so does not opt you in. Unknown means the page cannot confirm how it is set. Use Check again when offered instead of treating that state as off.

My campaign: History

The History section below Settings shows your own completed participation and flag results. It includes attempts where you planted the flag or contributed.

  1. Choose Today, This week, This month, or All time.
  2. Choose All, Captures, Defenses, or Broken flags under Results.
  3. Search by region name if needed.
  4. Read a card's region, completion time, team, role, result, and recorded time.
  5. Choose View attempt for the detail window.

Roles include Flag planter, Attacker, Defender, and Participant. Results can include Capture helped, Defense helped, Your flag captured, Your flag broke, and Your flag was repelled. One card may carry several results, such as both capture-help credit and a successful planted flag.

The attempt window shows Recorded events with their times and Contributors with their help result and attacking or defending time. Contributor names can link to player profiles. Longer contributor lists offer Previous and Next.

A recorded planter-death break can appear as Flag broken — planter died. Close the window with Close attempt, its close button, or Escape. Your history is not a global list of every battle, and losing or breaking a flag does not necessarily earn success credit.

Search, pages, and phone controls

  1. Enter a name in the relevant search field.
  2. Choose Search or press Enter to apply it.
  3. To remove the search, empty the field and submit again.
  4. Use Per page to choose 5, 10, or 25 entries; the usual starting choice is 10.
  5. Use Previous and Next to move between pages.

Changing filters or page size returns you to page one. Page navigation returns you to the list heading; contributor-page navigation returns the attempt window to its top.

On a phone, scroll the tab strip sideways or use Scroll page tabs to reach all five tabs. The participation panel is below the selected tab's content. View my results there provides another way to reach My campaign.

The selected main tab is remembered when you refresh in the same browser tab. Ranking filters and page numbers can return to their starting choices.

Times, updates, and unavailable information

Dates and times use Second Life Time (SLT). Today begins at SLT midnight, weeks begin Monday, and month views use the SLT calendar month.

While you are looking at an active region tab, it normally refreshes about every 15 seconds. Rankings, historical totals, and completed attempts can take longer to appear; allow roughly 15 minutes for recorded results to catch up. A team change can also take a short time to appear. During a fight, follow your current HUD state.

If information is delayed, the website says so. A failed refresh may keep the last confirmed information and offer Try again. An empty list, unavailable information, and a failed load are different states.

If a saved choice cannot be confirmed, use Retry or Check current setting when offered. Wait for the result before changing it again. A saved opt-in choice does not need to be repeatedly switched off and on because a list is delayed.

Help and FAQ

Use the HUD's current Realm message first, then the website's Your participation panel. These tell you different things: the HUD describes your current location and battle, while the website shows your saved choice and recorded results.

I cannot find the Action Bar or Bag

  1. Wear your DoD HUD.
  2. Click the settings button and choose Action bar. Choose Settings from the same menu for your HUD options.
  3. Open the Bag using the button at the Action Bar's left end.
  4. If part of the bar is off screen, bring the main HUD into view using its usual movement control, then drag the bar's right-hand movement handle to a reachable position.

If the controls remain missing or unresponsive after the HUD reconnects, ask game support for help. Include the visible message and what you were trying to do.

Can I play on any sim?

Yes. Realm Domination follows DoD's gridwide play and can be played on any sim in Second Life, except Systemland and safe zones. Systemland is a sanctuary where you earn flags alongside Essence. It is not a place to siege, plant flags, or influence a Realm battle.

Why is Use or Lay Siege missing?

  1. Check Take part and your in-game availability on the website.
  2. Check that you carry a flag.
  3. Stand on a supporting surface outside Systemland and safe zones, and allow the HUD to update.
  4. Read the region's state and bar.
  5. Check whether another flag is already planted.

Lay Siege needs an enemy-controlled region and a carried flag, but spends none. At zero control, plant directly instead of laying siege.

Use plants a flag in Unclaimed territory or an enemy-controlled region at 50% or below. It is blocked in your own territory, on Systemland, in safe zones, and during capture protection.

The dialog can also need fresh information after you arrive, land, or reconnect. Close and reopen it after the HUD updates.

Why am I not moving the bar?

  1. Check for Sanctuary, Your influence fades, Too swift, or an availability message.
  2. Remain alive, on foot, grounded, and at ordinary movement speed.
  3. Make sure you are in the same region as the battle, outside its safe areas.
  4. Allow a fresh update after landing or teleporting.
  5. Check the eligible numbers on both sides and the original planter's situation.

Equal eligible numbers hold the bar still. People who are flying, sitting, crouching, falling, too fast, opted out, or otherwise unable to participate do not add influence just by being nearby.

After a flag is planted, its original planter must remain alive and in the region for forward progress. Grounded teammates can continue while that planter is only airborne or seated in the region, but cannot replace a planter who has left or lost valid presence.

Can we win while our planter flies?

Yes, if the original planter remains alive and confirmed in the region and eligible grounded teammates are moving the claim. The planter's own influence stops while airborne, seated, crouching, or too fast. That alone does not break the flag.

If the planter leaves, enters a safe area, detaches, opts out, changes away from the flag's team, or loses a working connection, forward progress stops. If the planter dies, the flag breaks at the next capture update even when teammates remain.

We reached zero. Why do the defenders still own the region?

Zero is the end of the owner's control bar, not a completed capture. With a flag planted, the display switches to that flag team's claim. Fill this new claim to 100% to take ownership.

Without a flag, the owners keep the region at zero and can refill it. Plant a flag to begin your claim. If an enemy claim breaks before reaching 100%, the old owner keeps the region.

How do we break a flag?

Fight its planter where ordinary combat allows, refill the owner's control to 100%, or push a claim to zero and keep its team outnumbered for the required time. Complete flag-team absence can also break it.

There is no separate flag object you must rez, click, or attack. See Capturing and Defending for the 20-second outnumbered and 30-second absence rules.

Does Protected make me immune to combat?

No. The 15-minute protection prevents a new Realm siege or plant. Ordinary combat still follows the area's normal rules.

Breaking an enemy flag while your control is damaged does not instantly protect the region. Refill to 100% after that flagged attack. Refilling a siege that never planted a flag does not grant this protection.

What does Claimed by The Darkness mean?

It is the display for an unclaimed safe location. It does not mean there is a rival team called The Darkness that you can defeat to capture it. Sanctuary · your influence sleeps means your current location blocks Realm influence.

Why did my flag break?

Check the attempt's recorded events under My campaign → History → View attempt, when the result is available.

Common causes are the original planter dying, the flag team being absent, the claim remaining at zero while outnumbered, or defenders recovering to 100%. A successful plant spends its flag even when the attempt fails. Unused flags in your Bag are kept through death.

Why have I not earned another flag?

  1. Confirm you are opted in and able to earn, alive, wearing a working HUD, and on Systemland, where flags are earned alongside Essence.
  2. Check your Discord verification for Systemland rewards.
  3. Allow the roughly five-minute checks to confirm your time.
  4. Check whether you have earned two flags today or already carry six.

The milestones are 30 and 60 verified minutes total that SLT day. Offline time and unconfirmed gaps do not count. If your Bag was full, spend a flag and complete another successful check the same day to collect any remaining earned entitlement.

See Flags for the daily boundary and what happens when you opt out and rejoin.

Why did I not receive capture or defense help credit?

Capture help normally needs 30 seconds of counted help during the successful planted attempt. Time spent sieging before the plant does not count toward that flag's capture assist.

Defense help normally needs 30 seconds during a flagged attempt the owner survives. A defender still counted when a flag breaks because of planter death or team absence can qualify with 20 seconds. Arriving at the last moment does not guarantee credit.

Quiet ownership, protection, empty Unclaimed territory, and time when you cannot count do not earn fighting time. Also allow completed results time to appear on the website.

Why is our battle missing from Attack feed?

The feed shows planted flag attacks against existing owners. It excludes pre-flag sieges and flags claiming Unclaimed land. Check Your team's regions for your team's Unclaimed capture in progress.

An attack leaves the feed when its flag finishes or breaks. A delayed or unavailable feed has its own message, so do not treat that as proof no attack exists.

Why does Lost regions still list a region we recovered?

It is a history of losses, not a list of territory your team currently lacks. Separate losses can give the same region several entries.

Region lost records a completed enemy capture. Control reached zero is an older record whose card explicitly says capture is not confirmed. Do not treat that old zero-control entry as the current rule for losing territory.

The HUD and website disagree

Use the HUD's current state during play. Region cards normally update about every 15 seconds while that tab is active. Rankings, team historical totals, and completed history can take roughly 15 minutes to catch up. Team changes can also take a short time to appear.

  1. Read any delayed-information notice.
  2. Give the next update time to arrive.
  3. Use Try again if offered after a failed load.
  4. For an uncertain switch save, use Retry or Check current setting rather than repeatedly changing it.

Unavailable is not zero, and an error is not an empty result list.

How do I turn off the attack sound?

  1. Open the website's My campaign tab.
  2. Under Settings, turn Attack alert sound off.
  3. Wait for the saved confirmation.

This changes your Realm attack sound only. The chat alert remains, teammates keep their own choices, and your Take part setting stays as it was.

Do I need Patreon to join?

No. Realm Domination is available to signed-in DoD players. Join using Take part on its website page and meet the in-world participation requirements.

Does holding territory earn extra Essence?

Realm captures do not automatically pay territorial Essence or an additional activity award. Realm standings track their named measures separately; there is no combined Realm score. Normal DoD rewards continue under their usual rules.

Can I fight alone or without my own flag?

An Outlaw without a Dynasty is their own Realm team and can play alone. Any eligible player can help an existing attack or defense without carrying a flag. You need a carried flag to begin Lay Siege, and a successful Use spends one.

Does hiding the bar or closing the website stop participation?

No. Use Take part on the website to opt out. Logging off or detaching your HUD removes your in-world influence, but does not erase that saved choice or your unused flags.

Where can I find the other guides?
