Click the Self-Scan Button to display a detailed private scan of your character in nearby chat. The results are only visible to you.

A Self Scan contains more information than the public scan shown to other players through the Scan Others Button.

The following example uses entirely fictional player, bloodline, clan, and coven information:

The exact fields displayed will depend on your character. Optional information is automatically omitted when it does not apply.

General Information

Username

Your Second Life username. When displayed by the HUD, the name links to your Second Life profile.

Born

The date and time your character originally entered Descendants of Darkness.

Sire

The player responsible for bringing your character into the game. If your character does not have a sire, this field displays None.

If a Re-Sire request is pending, the scan may also display the proposed sire and the number of days remaining.

Generation

Generation records your character's position in their family line.

A root or Arch character is normally Generation 0. Someone sired by a Generation 0 player becomes Generation 1. Their descendants become Generation 2, and the pattern continues through the family tree.

Generation is primarily used for lineage and roleplay. It does not directly determine your combat strength; combat progression is primarily determined by your age group and related statistics.

Species

Your current species. The Main HUD currently supports Vampires, Lycans, Witches, and Hunters.

Status

Your character's current condition, such as Alive, Sleeping, Dead, Dead from Hunger, or Banned.

A dead Self Scan may also display the date and cause of death.

System Role

Players with a special game-wide position may have a System Role displayed near the top of their scan. This field is omitted for players without one.

Age Information

Age

Your character's current age in nights. Characters with an Alive status normally gain one night of age each day.

Some sleeping levels slow or pause age progression. Because of this, a night of character age does not always equal one real-world day for sleeping characters.

Age Group

There are currently 12 age groups. Each species has different names for these levels, but they share the same age thresholds.

Level Required Age
1 0 nights
2 30 nights
3 60 nights
4 120 nights
5 240 nights
6 420 nights
7 700 nights
8 1,050 nights
9 1,450 nights
10 1,900 nights
11 2,400 nights
12 2,950 nights

Reaching a new age group can increase your maximum resource, combat strength, attack range, and scanning range. It also reduces your Subsistence requirement.

Subsistence

Subsistence is the amount of your species resource normally consumed each night while your character is alive.

In the example above, a Subsistence value of 0.460 means that the character normally loses 0.460 units of Energy each night.

Subsistence decreases as you advance through the age groups:

Level Nightly Subsistence
1 0.500
2 0.480
3 0.460
4 0.435
5 0.405
6 0.375
7 0.345
8 0.300
9 0.240
10 0.175
11 0.100
12 0.050

Sleeping characters currently do not lose their resource through nightly Subsistence.

If an active character's resource reaches zero through Subsistence, the character may die from hunger.

Blood / Energy

This line shows your current species resource followed by your maximum capacity.

  • Vampires and Lycans use Blood.
  • Witches and Hunters use Energy.

For example, Energy: 4.640 of 5.160 means the character currently has 4.640 Energy and can hold a maximum of 5.160.

Your maximum capacity increases as you advance through the age groups.

Essence

Essence is a shared resource used by every species. It is separate from Blood and Energy.

Alive players normally receive a passive gain of 0.25 Essence per day. Additional Essence may be obtained through region-presence rewards, special events, kills, or Essence Containers.

Essence may be spent on actions such as:

  • Siring or converting a new player
  • Reviving players
  • Depositing Essence into containers
  • Other game abilities and costs

Dark Rating

Dark Rating is a rolling activity score that measures how active you have been during the most recent 28 Second Life Time calendar days.

Accepted activities award Dark Rating points. A maximum of eight points can count toward your rating on any one day. Accumulating 120 points within the rolling period produces a Dark Rating of 100%.

Dark Rating is recalculated daily at approximately 12:30 a.m. Second Life Time. Older activity leaves the calculation after 28 days, so your rating can rise or fall over time.

Dark Rating is no longer the direct score used to rank Dynasties and Clans. Those groups have separate Weekly and Lifetime scoring systems. However, Dark Rating remains important to systems such as Legacy.

Legacy

Legacy is your cumulative bloodline score. It is influenced by the living descendants beneath you in the family tree and their Dark Ratings.

Active descendants with sufficient Dark Rating can contribute toward your weekly Legacy award. Deeper and well-developed family trees may earn larger rewards. Certain consequences, such as being slain or entering a coma, may reduce an award.

Unlike Dark Rating, Legacy is cumulative and does not automatically disappear when older activity leaves a rolling window.

Bloodline and Affiliation Information

Bloodline DNA

Your character's inherited bloodline. This is private information and is not shown in another player's public scan.

Bloodline DNA is different from Bloodline Allegiance.

Bloodline Allegiance

The bloodline or Arch organization to which your Clan is currently loyal.

If your Clan does not serve a bloodline, the scan may identify you as a Renegade. Players without an applicable affiliation may be identified as an Outlaw.

Loyal To

When available, this line identifies the leader of your Clan's bloodline allegiance and displays their bloodline role.

Following

The player your character currently follows through the loyalty system. This line is omitted when you are not following anyone.

Bloodline Role

Your current position within your inherited bloodline.

Clan

The Clan to which your House, Pack, Coven, or Order belongs.

Clan Role

Your current position within the Clan.

House / Pack / Coven / Order

The name of your character's primary affiliation. The label depends on your species:

Species Affiliation
Vampire House
Lycan Pack
Witch Coven
Hunter Order

Affiliation Role

Your current role within your House, Pack, Coven, or Order.

Title

An optional personal title assigned to your character. This line is omitted when you do not have a title.

Umbral Bond

The player with whom your character shares an Umbral Bond. The name links to that player's Second Life profile. This line is omitted when no bond exists.

Followers

The first number is the number of your followers who are currently alive. The second number is your total number of followers.

For example, Followers: 2 of 3 means that two of your three total followers are currently alive.
